Location: NC | I'm looking for rivets to replace lost and leaky ones on the front fiberglass rounds of my GN trailer. They are probably aluminum, rounded/closed head, 1/2" head dianmter, approx 3/16" rivet diameter, and have a a rubber washer under the head and a 3 prong backing. They secure the fiberglass round to the steel ribs and to the aluminum roof. I would probably have an eaiser time finding them... if I knew what they are called. Can anyone put a name and/or source on these? Thanks, Pam |

Location: Edinburg, Va. | I had to replace this same kind of rivet on my Kiefer Built. I called Kiefer and they supplied me with some. They called them a "Butterfly Rivet". I found these rivets on various websites but none of them had the rubber washer. As suggested, best to call your trailer manufacturer. Good Luck |

Location: NC | The trailer is a Crescent...no longer manufactured. I did find some rivets on the web, but they require a pneumatic tool, which I don't have. I'll try calling some trailer dealers to see if they have something that would work. Thanks for the help. Pam |

Location: western PA | If the rivets you are looking for are aluminum, usually they can be pulled with a good quality hand gun. The steel may need a pneumatic/hydraulic tool. Most RV dealers, light aircraft service dealers and marinas have the pneumatic tools. Once you have the rivets, you could go to one of those places for their installation. I just reread your OP and realized that you are planning on installing aluminum rivets into a steel structure. This is a big no no, and the AL rivets will fail within a few years.

Location: NC | Thanks, again. I've got a good hand riveter. I'm pretty sure they are aluminum as I drilled one out without too much difficulty. Now...the trailer is almost 20 years old. After much searching, I think I've found what I need in the Bulb-tite (tri fold) rivets from Gesipa. They are Al, so I could use them on the one row that secures Al to fiberglass. The other row secures Al, fiberglass and steel rib. All the old rivets look the same...do I really need to switch to stainless? I'd have to use screws with maybe a washer head.... So...what material are the rivets that secure aluminum skins to steel frames? Probably have a few of those to replace. Pam |
