Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | Welcome to HTW....!! What model F-150, 5.4 V8, automatic, 3.73 gears?? Is the trailer steel or aluminum? How long of a LQ, 4', 14'? Do you think the F-150 will stop this trailer in those hills you live in? The GVWR of the trailer and the GCVWR of the truck will give you a good idea if you can safely get it home. Just a few things to consider. It's like asking... Does your dog bite??! |

Location: Michigan | I pull a 2 horse GN Dream Coach (Aluminum) with a weekender LQ (6 ft. short wall and 8 ft. long wall) with my 2004 F150 4x4 Lariat with a 5.4L V8 Triton Engine, 3.73 gears, and a Brake Controller and have no problems. I pull 4 hours round trip with 1 large horse (16.1H Paint) every week to my trainer and go every weekend to a horse show. It does the job well, but like the other poster, I would question the specs of your indiviual truck and the weight of the trailer. I'm assuming a '83 Hart would be steel, so it's likely heavier than the trailer I pull.

Location: michigan | I'd say if your just driving it home, you are fine. Basically with horses and loaded with stuff, I'd want at least a 3/4 truck. |

Location: Texas | As mentioned, to get it home, should do it, but I'm not a fan of 1/2 ton trucks for towing horse trailers. While you will hear of many people who do it, I'd guess many are towing more than their truck is rated to not only pull, but STOP. Some have never pulled with anything else, so they do not know the "feel" of a stressed truck, vs. one that is better suited for the job. Also, most have never ran their rig across a scale, to know just how much that truck and trailer REALLY weigh. Many truck stops have a scale out back, and its about $5 to weigh your rig. KNOW what your trailer weighs, and if you are running at the upper level of the rating of your tow vehicle. This applies to any size truck. Lots of folks running 1 ton trucks ov er the limit with HUGE LQ trailers behind. |
