Location: Minnesota | Our previous trailer had two jacks and was very stable when unhooked. The new (to us) trailer only has one jack and we noticed whike on vacation that you can feel and hear the a little bit of sway side to side when moving around in the trailer. My question is, has anybody ever used trailer jacks-stabilizers like RV's use? I was thinking maybe putting them under the bumper to reduce the sway. |

Location: Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain... | I've got a set of jack stands that I carry in my mangers that I use under the front end of the trailer. They work great for a lot less money. |

Location: Minnesota | I planned on using the portable kind like Tresvolte. But why the front? It seems that the sway comes from the axles. |

Location: Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain... | Because the single jack is what is letting the trailer pivot. You will get a small amount out of the axles, but not near what you get from the front. Try it both ways and see which you like better... |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | Would a pair of these work? Trailer weight remains on the jack, these just help prevent that ying yang, side to side sway.... http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-jacks/stabilizer-jack-rv.htm Or if you're as lazy as I have become in this heat.... http://www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/rv-jacks/rv-electric-stabilizer-jack.htm

Location: Minnesota | Retento- They probably would, but it looks like the top bar is one piece, and I have my gas line running there I think. Better go look. |

Location: Minnesota | I am cheap too! The car jacks might work. Just looked, the gas line goes to the front frame cross member, turns 90 and goes under it to about 3" from outside wall then 90 turn to the back. If I carefully put the jacks in, they would work. I think my FIL has some old screw up ones from his old camper sitting around yet. Maybe I'll go look for them. Cheaper yet. FREE! |
