Location: Ohio | I have a couple old steel trailers that I am wanting to paint the roof with an elastomeric white paint. However, I'm not sure how to apply it.
I know I would need to clean it, but with what?
What kind of prep do I need if any? Primers, etc? They are currently painted with the metal tractor enamel paint from TSC.
Roll on? Spray on?
Please shed some light. Thanks! |

Location: western PA | Like any paint application, preparation is key to a long lasting surface coating. Pressure wash the present surface, and remove/sand any loose paint. Any rusty areas should be treated with a rust converter. The elastomeric company you choose will recommend a brand of primer that is compatable with their products. It is important to use the approved products for the best final adhesion. The elastomeric coating can be rolled or brushed, which is the easiest application for smaller areas. Commercial buildings are often sprayed with high pressure guns. You will have an open window time period, when additional coats can be added before the previous coat fully cures. Follow the application instructions of the manufacturer and you shouldn't have any difficulties. |

Location: Ohio | Great! Thanks for the replies.
Would 5 gallons be enough to do 35 ft x 7 ft? roughly 250 sq ft.
The website lists 100 sq. ft per gallon, but since I have no experience with it and not sure how many coats it'd take, I thought I'd ask.
Thanks again! |

Location: western PA | According to your figures, you would have enough for two coats? That should suffice |
