Location: Toronto ontario canada | I'm looking at a 2006 Chevrolet 2500 HD 4x4, 6 liter gas ,automatic, crew cab , long box. What kind of gas consumption should I expect ? |

Location: North Carolina | Short answer ... A lot. Don't expect a truck set up to tow a horse trailer to sip fuel like a commuter car. I have a 8.1L gas engine, 4.10 axle ratio pulling a 3 horse steel trailer. I estimate 10 miles per gallon on highway to calculate a trip fuel cost. Traffic ... stop/go will drop this number a bunch. |

| I had one, I would estimate 8-10 on a good day. Mine got 12 empty on a good day. Three other work vans got better than it did on any day, one of them is a 3500. It loved the gas. Had no power compared to the 3500 van with a 5.7 gasser. I want to say it had a 3.73 gear. Plain old 2500 GM work truck I believe it was a 05 model, ext cab long bed. I sold it with less than 30k miles. |

| Mine is a 2009 2500 HD 6.0 6 speed 4.10. As high as 14MPG driving under 65 mph. 12-14 mpg empty, 12mpg on interstate doing 70mph plus. 9-11 mpg hauling a trailer. 9mpg going 70 mph plus in hills, 11mpg going under 65 mpg. These are my readings after 11,000 miles with this particular truck. I have plenty of power, but only haul a 2 horse gooseneck with 4'SW. |

Which of the big three gas engines in the same truck configurations I posted above give the best fuel economy,Ford's 5.4L,Dodge 5.7L,or Chev/GM 6.0 L.
The only reason I'm looking at gas trucks as opposed to diesel is because although everyone seems to be crying about how bad the current economy situation is, the price of used ,or new for that matter , diesel trucks is outragous and most of them have high milege and are in ruogh shape. |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | I got pretty much the same truck as Hosspuller. I'll get 12.0 running empty and 8.0 running loaded..... Just like he said, works out to about 10 mpg. That 6.0 GM is going to get about the same as the 8.1.
