Location: Mena, AR | I recently got a new to me trailer with a ramp. The ramp is very slippery when wet. What the best traction device to put on it. I was thinking of putting some 1x2 screwed to the ramp for traction. Is there a better idea?Thanks.. |

Location: Iowa | It should have rubber ribs on it for grip. I know mine does and I haven't had a problem with horses slipping. I don't know why the 1x2's wouldn't work in it's place. I'm not sure they make those treated. Gard or Retento could help you out there. |

Location: Florida | We carry kitty litter for wet exits. I just toss a handful accross the ramp if we are unloading in the rain. I also find it very important to remove any manure prior to unloading. I have a friend that permanently blocked his ramp with some aluminum brackets, to cut the angle. We place our yellow walmart tire blocks under each side of the ramp to lift it up and even it out. This also cuts down on the scuffing from being on the ground. My guy has slipped a few times so I tend to take a few more precautions when unloading. After a long haul I always let the horses stay in the trailer for a few before unloading. Our striaght load is set up so I can drop the breast bar and walk them forward a few steps and then back. Giving them the chance to regain their land legs :) |

Location: Mena, AR | It has the rubber mat with the threads on it. The ramp was wet and my horse slipped to her knees on it when she was getting in. It was also slippery for me to walk on. I'll get some kitty litter for the short term, till I figure something else out. After my mare slipped, she leaped from the ground into the trailer not touching the ramp. She didn't want to back out, but I suppose she'll get use to it. Hopefully the rain is over for awhile! -BJ |
