Location: Edmond OK | My trailer came with a window unit and instead of putting it in the gooseneck, it was put in the wall dividing the LQ and the Horse Part. They cut a hole in the upper part of the wall, just big enough for the AC unit and had a shelf under the front part to hold it in place, the back part was held in by bunjees. Otherwise, the hole was covered back up and the AC unit went back to the box when not needed. They didn't travel with the AC unit up in the wall since it wasn't secured. I didn't mind this at all when I bought the trailer. However, the unit shoots HOT air into the horse part and since I use that as my extra room/guest room (I sweep it out, put down carpet and use the horse part for extra living space once I get to the campground), that's not going to work. The AC was great for keeping the front part nice and cold though. So instead of getting a top-mounted AC (and worrying about scraping it off under trees), I would rather get the AC unit installed under the gooseneck. I have seen it done in lots of trailers, especially when I was trailer shopping. Has anyone done this? And if you have - were you cool enough up in the bed? I usually run a fan for extra circulation anyway. To me it just makes more sense to be able to replace a window unit and a whole lot cheaper. |
