| Am considering buying a Merhow 2H slant BP trailer with dressing room. Thinking it weighs about 3500 lbs. I drive a 2009 Ford F150 with the max. Tow pkg, 5.4L engine and 3.73 (?)rear differential(this is from memory, don't have it right in front of me) I will be transporting my daughters horse and somebelongings back and forth from MA to SC to college. The trailer is their steel frame, aluminum body model. Anyone have an opinion on whether I will have problems towing this trailer with my truck? Thanks |

Location: Northern Utah | Back in 1997, I had a Ford F150 with the 5,4L engine. I was pulling a Steel 3 horse bumper pull trailer with 2 horse usually. It worked just fine. Although it got a little busy when working to climb the mountain passes we have here in Utah. The 5,4L gas engine needs higher Rev's to pull the steeper grades.
The trucks have been improved since then. The 5.4L engine today has more horsepower than the 97 model. And your Steel Frame/Aluminum skin trailer is probably a litte lighter than my old steel trailer.
So I think you would be fine. |

| Thanks for the input. Some people are telling me it isn't enough truck, but money was an object and I wanted the anti-sway technology that's on the new trucks. Won't often be hauling two horses, at least not on the long trips south where there are a few hills to climb. Just being a nervous rookie horse hauler I guess. |

Location: western PA | Your truck will be an excellent tow vehicle for a 2H trailer. By purchasing the tow package, you have all the aux coolers, which will ensure a long drive train life span. The Equistar tends to have the axles quite close to the rear of the trailer, especially with a tack room model. It should tow well, but you will have to be careful about tongue weight, if you haul a lot of things in the tack room. |
