Cedar Lake Equestrian Camp out of Heavener, OK or Robbers Cave at Wilburton, OK.  There's also a few others in Oklahoma I havent been to. Horse Heaven and A to Z. The are easy to get to and in the area of the two I mentioned. I think Horse Heaven is in Talinina and A to Z is considered Smithville. Also Indian Mounds in Clayton, OK.

I happen to know that Cedar Lake sites are full for that week, our group wanted to go then also.  Try Ponderosa Campground at Pineville, MO   It is a great camp, great trails and close for you.  www.ponderosatrails.com

Ponderosa Trails is awesome. So much nicer than Huckleberry and they ride the same area and trails but the camp and facilities are much nicer. We were there in last October and cant wait to get back.

Gotta say, without being the least negative about Ponderosa, we love that trail system they share in Huckleberry State Park, we really love the owners of Huckleberry and like the more family atmosphere of a less large campground (and it is on the high ground, something to be extremely glad of there, at times!)  Hope you have a great time wherever you go, the trails are lovely!

I would strongly recommend Horse Heaven Ranch Resort neat Talihina, Oklahoma. We stayed there about 2 years ago. Friendly folks, great facilities, corrals at almost all camp sites, lots of trees and shade throughout, cabins if you don't have living quarters in your rig and miles and miles of trails in the adjoining national forest. What more could you ask for?   Lee

All the horse camps around the Huckleberry are great.  3 to be exact.  Ponderosa has more space, but our preference is to stay at the Huckleberry stables.  The folks that ran all 3 camps are the best!!   You will enjoy the riding.

Hey Becki (CTR Rider) you dont live in Kansas anymore. LOL  Shouldnt you be in Stillwater Oklahoma on March 19th ?  Been really missing you and the ice cream at the rides. Got my own place for ice cream now !  Does anyone have maps of the trails at Horse Heaven, or know how many miles of marked trail there is ?  We havent ridden there. We have explored Robbers Cave, which is a great place to ride, and have been busy exploring Cedar Lake inbetween competitions. Lake Carl Blackwell in Stillwater, OK is also a great place to camp and ride. I think there is about 50 miles of trail.  Its not mountainous, but there are some hills and little climbs and trails along the lake that are really really pretty.

Hey Patti!

No, don't live in KS anymore, but can't figure out how to change the profile!   Yes, I'll be at Stillwater, but the club I belong to is planning to be at Bar Fifty.  We have really had a bad winter, lots of snow and I could not get my trailer out right now if I had to!  I saw your post about Cedar Lake and thought "Wow, CTR Rider, " then saw it was you!  Miss you and Ronald too!

One thing to know, is that at horse heaven I believe you have to bag up your stall cleaning manure etc and tote it to the disposal area....  not sure if you can saddle at your trailer or if you need to take your tack down to the horse area....check and see for sure....

We have been to HorseHeaven 1 time and wont go back. Trails were ok and marked well but camp sites were terrible. Most trailer were up from the camp stalls so feeding and watering was a hassle. You must bag your manure in heavy duty plastic bags(supposedly for enviroment purposes but doesnt the plastic negate that idea). Motorcycles were coming and going at all hours of the nite( one came in at 4am reving his motor). In the mornings when we were trying to saddle up here come more motorcycles and not at the posted speed limits. We didnt find it near as user friendly as Cedar Lake or Lonesome D. We did like Robbers Cave and Devils Den is always a good place to go if u can get a site.

Cedar Lake is very popular -but there are non-reservable sites too. This has been a miserable winter! I love Huckleberry - my choice for sure in that area. There is also a lovely small horse camp J-D Trail Riding in SE OK that is neat as a pin, has cabins, RVs and LQ hook ups. Plus corrals, and two barns if you want your horse inside. We've had a LOT of moisture in Oklahoma so everything should be wet unless we get out of this crazy weather pattern. Robbers Cave is a great place to go too. Spring Break is a popular time at horse camps.

Yes Cedar Lake has lots of non-reservable electrical sites. The way the economy has been it hasnt always been full to capacity so you will probably be able to get electric with just driving up. I guess they arent considered the optimum sites, but we like most of them just fine. I like riding at Robbers Cave. Love to climb at the cave. Its a smaller campground but always clean and nice. We always ride way out exploring. The trail that runs the old Butterfield stage route towards the cabins is really nice. Goes along the water at one point. We love the Rim Rock trail. Like to ride it and stop at the fire ring to watch the sunset from the rock that juts out over the lake. We went to Bar 50 in Arkansas once. Its an easy drive to it. Camp was nice but I didnt care for the arrangement of the horse corrals. I prefer my horses to be alone in our camp. I dont like the group line of corrals. Trails were okay. They werent marked very well and the map was hard to read. Pretty much used a GPS to get around. They also werent milaged. It said how long they were by hours. Well that depends on who is doing the riding. I like to know the milage. I also thought it pretty expensive. Has anyone ridden at Indian Mounds in Clayton ? I was invited once but didnt get to go. We have ridden at Lake Carl Blackwell alot. We have a competition there in mid March. We usually have 2 there, one in spring and one in fall. I like the trails and the camp although the electric is very limited. There are some lovely places on the trail and some neat caves along trails if you know where to look. Be sure and spray your horse for ticks though.

I've been to Indian Mounds. It has a very "rustic" campground and very rocky. But pretty areas to ride.

My favorite trail at Robbers Cave is the Rimrock Trail. I am soooo ready to ride and for winter to be over! I only live about 45 minutes from Lake Carl Blackwell but I never did get over there last year. I used to ride there a lot.

Went to Texas over spring break. Ended up going to Caprock State Park Beautiful trails and weather was accommodating and riding was fun. No electricity but park does have water and pretty good camp sites with pipe corrals. Had a good time.

We left Texas and went to OK for spring break..Corpus is not the place to be during spring break.. unless you like hordes of young people clogging up the roads and resturants, and the beach and beach roads are nearly unnavigatable... Went by Caprock canyons to check it out...plan to ride there in the future.. Unfortunately, not a riding trip this time... In OK we went thru the Witchita mountain wildlife preserve... BEAUTIFUL place! Felt like Wyoming or Montana!... I don't think they allow riders there, but am planning to call and see why or why not.. Quartz mountain is nearby.. there are possibly some areas to ride there.. Will find out and post back..

We are just going home from Cedar Lake/ Robber's Cave/ and Palo Duro and Caprock Canyons... We camped and rode one day two weeks ago before it started SNOWING 12-14" Saturday/Sunday... then, after we packed up and went to Robber's Cave, rode a couple of days before OETRA came in... nice camp and trails were still pretty wet from rain/snow. Next, we went to Flying W Ranch near Sayre, Oklahoma, to camp overnite...(nice people, great restaurant), on to Caprock Canyon near Quitaque, Tx. GREAT camp and ride..... it can get so windy it'll blow you off your horse sometimes... hahahaha. The last couple of days were good. We saw a few rigs from NE Kansas there... met some people from Germany, and everywhere else. I will work on getting pics on. Happy Trails.

Some of our workers were there at the camp for the snow storm. We came the next Thursday. Everything was still kind of mucky at Robbers Cave but not too bad. We got a lot of work done while we were there. I am so ready for spring riding and camping!

Just got back from Cedar Lake! Had a great time even tho it stormed all day yesterday. We got there on Thurday after noon with highs in the 80's, rode for about an hour, trail we in great shape! Rained all day yesterday but it cleared for a bit in the afternoon so we rode about 1.5 hrs then rain started again:( Got up today and in the saddle by 9, trails were really muddy and slick but we rode 2 hrs then time to go home. Cant wait to go back! Went up to the bluff overlook, the fog was still on the valley below and it looked like an ocean below us with the fog and clouds moving. Great veiw. FYI the have 2 camp hosts now, Sharon at the front gate and Bess camped in F5. Very nice ladies and glad to see Sharon really does check the coggins papers to make sure horses match and they are up to date. Bess will ride with u anytime and will take u on any trail u want to go on if ur new there. Thanks Ladies!

Need the latest info for camping in SE Oklahoma.  We're looking at either Cedar Lake or Horse Heaven.   We need user friendly campsites..(42 ft rig), not too rigorous trails (bad back),  Need RV hookup.   Were planning on camping in Texas next week but due to hurricane Alex, we need to hear north.  Thanks..

I prefer Cedar Lake - you can make reservations through the internet and pick out a site that your rig will fit into. It is rocky there (same as Horse Heaven) but the trails are better marked. Lots and lots of riding! You'll love it.
