My saddle racks in the trailer are metal upside down Vs with carpet over them. I'm not tall or strong enough to 'set' the saddles on the racks in place- for the middle and top one, I gotta hook it up there and slide it into place. Over time, the carpet has worn through on that peak of the V and I've scraped the fool out of some saddle gullets. I'm doing better at babying them on there- but I'm eager for ideas/sources for a rubber gasket or some such to completely cover that leading edge of metal.

Ideas? Sources? And platform boots are not an option :)

We carry a little folding step that we got from Lowes in the tack. I use it to stand on to load saddles up high and blankets on the top rack. Also use it to get on my tall horse and to unpin my Hi Tie. My trailer is 7-6 on the inside so lots of things are "too tall". This is an aluminum step that looks like a tiny ladder. Folds up flat.

re carpet those saddle racks?

I agree with HH.

While using a heat gun to soften the glue, remove the rest of the worn carpeting. Clean up the metal, apply some contact glue and install a new pre fitted piece of carpeting.

We transport/keep ours in quilted saddle bags... No scrapes, scratches and they stay clean. Most of the time they're on the floor of the tack room/midtack. No chance of them falling off of a saddle rack. I took the saddle racks out of the trailers and I've got them mounted in the barn.

They've never fallen off, that's not an issue, and with a 4' short wall, ain't much floor in the tiny LQ for saddles to reside on

I think I'll go with recarpeting. Here in the Deep South sticky velcro is a bad idea, Lord knows I've tried it in other applications. But that would work in a more reasonable climate.

Thanks all, we're removing the carpet from the LQ floor, maybe I'll be able to salvage some of that, and redo the saddle racks while I'm at it :)

I use an old woven saddle blanket folded over and placed on the bootom and middle saddle rack and an old quilted english pad on the top rack so it does hang down to far and interfere with the middle rack.
