Location: Southern Il | We are deciding what wood to use in a new LQ. Alder is supposed to be 50% lighter than oak, which would be a plus for us. We like the looks of either one and oak is a good hard wood that holds up well. We would appreciate any info or opinions from anyone that has used this in a LQ. Thanks! |

Location: Tennessee | I like the way alder stains and finishes better that oak, I had it installed on our LQ based on the color and I was tired of oak. It is soft and the screws do get loose. The next one will be maple |

Location: Southern Il | Yes, I was thinking that would be a problem with the softer wood. Thanks |

Location: Minneapolis, MN | I'd like to try a LQ with hickory. But dimension red oak is so easy to come by compared to hickory. |

Location: western PA | You can get around the screw holding problem in Alder and most soft woods. After everything is assembled and fitted, remove the screws and lightly coat the ends with some glue. Reinsert and torque the screws, and in most cases you won't have a problem with them loosening. Cherry is my wood of choice. It can present many colours by being clear coated, or stained with any number of shades. It is easy to work, although you must be careful not to burn the edges with the wrong router setting. It has a warmth that increases with age, and the durability of a quality hardwood. Gard |

Location: Grant Twp., MI | Hi - we've had oak in 1 LQ trailer - and it was very nice...then we had a Sundowner that had what I call a "photo-finish" wood wannabe....which I never liked - even though we kept it 4 years. NOW we have a beautiful hickory interior and it is just lovely...we had considered alder wood because it does have a beautiful grain and character - but had heard that it was a soft wood and that sometimes you might have a little trouble....I've seen one interior done with a really wild looking cedar - that was something! Another thing is I wish I had a double sink in the kitchen area. I think my sink is sorta a bar type - really too small to be useful. I unfortunately have to keep cooking and doing dishes even when we camp! |
