I wanted to test my furnace this weekend but was not where I could plug in to electric power.  I thought it would run off the battery and the propane.  It never would turn on.  It was working fine a couple of weeks ago when I tried it but I was plugged in then.  The cooktop and the water heater both worked on the propane so it wasn't empty.  Any thoughts?

Does the furnace have a 12 volt or 110 volt fan blower?

It will be 12V blower. All regular RV furnaces are.

We tried ours this weekend and in Texas it was still warm enough we had to set the thermostat on 90 to get it to ignite. Make sure your 12 volt master switch is on if you have one.

Is your battery charged and in good shape? Is it new or aged? If the furnace works on a/c and not the battery, I would suspect a low voltage battery problem. Was your battery switch on when you tried the furnace?

If your system doesn't have a volt meter, how bright are the interior lights when they are running off the battery? If they are dim, your battery may not have enough voltage to fire the furnace igniter.

This would be one thing to check.

One of the best lil toys I purchased was a digital volt meter that you plug into your 12v cigarette lighter type receptacle generally located near the television area. I got mine at Wal-Mart in the marine area. With that and this chart, I am always aware of my 12v power supply. http://www.ccis.com/home/mnemeth/12volt/voltchart1.gif
