Location: Georgia | I have used a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% rubbing alcohol with good results. It sounds harsh but my horse did not seem to mind it. I applied it by either pouring it over the area or simply rubbing it on with my hands. |

Location: MI. | Clip the hair, use an antiseptic cream, betadine.....Gotta get the scabs off and disinfect the area daily. Try and keep the area dry. Run your hands all over and see if you can feel scabs that aren't visible. |

| There are several good shampoos out there made specifically for rain rot.One is by Mane & Tail.Another is Micro Tek by Equyss. Some have used Betadine scrub,not the solution.The solution will not foam and it is very staining.If you could manage to get some Phisohex shampoo that once was sold over the counter,that will work.You have to let it set for about 5 minutes before rinsing.Micro Tek also makes a leave-in spray after shampooing. With all of the rain we've had lately it is no wonder that it is coming around early.I usually don't see it until spring on my horses. |

Location: Tucumcari NM | My vet recomended a body wash of one cup bleach to five gallons of water. Sponge the animal, staying clear of the eyes, and let sit two minutes. Rinse completely. Worked well on my gelding, even though I was dubious at first. The bleach is diluted enough that it doesn't burn, but stout enough to kill the fungus. Marla |

Location: Newton, NJ | Even though rain rot is a fungal condition, if the scabs are bad enough, a bacterial infection could be a secondary issue. Treat the topical condition, but be aware that if severe enough, an antibiotic may also be in order. Had a mare who was boarded out while I was on an extended vacation. The scabs were so bad when I got back, that the mare showed signs of collic including an elevated temp. The condition occurred in less than a 3 week period. I was pretty upset and terminated my boarding contract and took her home. |

Location: ohio | My horse gets rainrot every year at this time wheather it is damp or dry. Last year he had it pretty bad and we hadn't had any rain for weeks. I put Shapley's MTG on the scabs and they came off pretty easy and he was quite bald in places and I kept treating him with it and within a couple weeks his hair grew back. This year I have kept up with it pretty good. After I ride I always wash him off and apply MTG to any bump that comes on him, so far it hasn't been bad. I was also told to use the 50/50 vinager and water. I do shampoo him with iodine shampoo and it really gets his white white. This horse has a lot of white on him and is the only one out of a herd of 11 that gets this problem. |

Location: Massachusetts | Keep it dry dry dry and put desatin baby rash ointment on it.I have a mare that had it so bad that I even had her put on antibiotics by my vet and that didnt even work. I put baby rash stuff on it and its gone.Jock itch spray worked too. |

Location: Hopkinsville, Ky | Look in the plant/chemicle/fertilizer aisle. Anything with captan in it as the main ingrediant. Look up the msds sheet online. It is safe externally for animals. Dont get it in eyes, but the same could be said of soap. |
