| Hi- I have a fairly new trailer with an aluminum roof and the sides are white paint. It keeps getting black streaks every time it rains down the sides of the white. The roof looks clean. Is the roof oxidizing and dripping down? Is there something I can do to stop these black streaks? They are really annoying me! |

Location: Home of Wild Turkey Whiskey | The roof of your trailer is getting dirt/dust on it, then it rains and ala black streaks appear. If they really bother you then you could wash the roof of your trailer every now and then to keep it clean. The best stuff I have found to remove them with is Purple Power, it can be bought at any Auto Zone. (1)Rinse the trailer (2)Starting at the top spray Purple Power on the trailer covering it completely (3)Then take a soft brush and scrub (4)Then rinse. This will remove even the most stubborn black streaks with no damage to the white skin. |

Location: Florida | What effects do Purple power have on the polished Aluminum sides under the white walls? As much as I like the results of the Streak Master products It was an absolute pain keeping the streak master off the polished aluminum. I do like the follow up of the Ultra Guard for all surfaces. And I have discovered Speedy Metal Polish for restoring the extruded Polished aluminum to a brilliant shine. |

| Has anyone ever tried "black streak remover" by Bio Kleen? or Black Streak Eliminator by DuraGlass?

Location: Alabama | I agree with using Purple Power. It works!!! I have used it on my steel trailer and it was great. I did dilute it 50/50 with water, sprayed it on the roof, let it sit for about 10-15 seconds, scrubbed it with a brush, and the dirt just rinsed right off. My trailer had sat under a pecan tree and also had reddish colored stains running down the sides. I rubbed and rubbed with regular car wash soap and a rag and couldn't get the streaks off. Then I used the Purple Power as above (minus the scrub brush) and they came right off with just lightly wiping a wet rag over them. It was great!! I would recommend testing the Purple Power in a hidden spot on your paint job first because the bottle does say don't use on exterior car surfaces but it didn't bother my trailer paint job at all. Then I used Turtle Wax's "Spray and Wax" on the trailer and it worked really well too. The water just beads right off now. |

Location: North Webster,Indiana | The most likley cause of your streaks is the roof caulking used to seal the roof. There are many products that will clean this up. The longer you leave the streaks there the harder they will be to remove. After the streaks are gone a good coat of wax on the trailer will make the next clean up much easer. |

Location: Southern Indiana | Roof caulk doesn't cause the black streaks. Its plain ol' dirt and pollution. My roof is a one piece fiberglass. No caulk what so ever. And the sides of it look horrible. I found some stuff at the local RV dealer that cuts the stuff. Sold under the Camco name. Good luck with wax keeping them away too. It seems like it burns right thru wax. I've waxed mine twice this year. Within a month there right back and as nasty as ever. Not cheap wax either. I've got an old '84 fifth wheel sitting here too and it looks just as bad as my horse trailer after a month. It hasn't been washed or waxed the 15 yrs I've owned it. |

| I agree with the statement its from the caulk on the trailer. If it was from dirt and pollution I would have streaks running down my van or down my barn( steel painted). I had a Sundowner with a painted roof and painted exterior walls. Black streaks running down the walls .If it was from dirt and pollution soap and water would clean the walls. I bought a new Merhow this summer and the factory rep told me it was from the roof caulk. and, The best thing you can do is keep your trailer well waxed. |

| See... I'm the one that started this whole thread and my trailer IS a Merhow! I didn't mention that because I didn't really think it was relevant. But I have seen similar black streaks on other trailers. Anyway, something to think about and I'm sure a good coat or wax every now and again sure wouldn't hurt. thanks for your input. I do love the Merhow, and would buy another. I will also add tho, that their decals are fading and creating streaks of their own too!

Go without washing the roof of your van for 6 months or a year and you will start to see it.. The reason it is so much worse on the trailers is there is no clear coat. My brother has a cargo trailer that he had clear coated that never has the black streaks show up now. I have an RV that gets it full length of both sides that has a vinyl roof. The only caulk on it is around two vents and a skylight. If the caulk caused it, think you would see it on a white sided house below the windows? |

| This was done with about 10 oz of the High Performance cleaner in about 1.5 gallons of water, brushed on with an RV brush then allowed to dwell for about 2 min. and then rinsed. This amount of solution was enough to do this whole trailer. This trailer did not have heavy black streaks but the Metal Wax polish and Top Wax will remove the toughest marks on paint but it does require a little work. Once you apply these products, you end up with a protected, shined finish and not a compromised finish on your paint by using caustic products. ( Would you use some of the products mentioned on this forum on your car paint?) If not then why use them on the paint on your expensive Horse trailer. I will have a video soon of the cleaning of this trailer on my web-site |
