We just returned from a trip to Michigan, the UP and Soo Ontario. What a remarkable state! We were totally unprepared for the maritime beauty and history, the vast agriculture presence, the large forests and the warm welcome by Michiganders. A side trip on the Agawa RR took us to wilderness only accessible by rail. The South East region of Bay City south to Toledo is what we expected of all the state, and we were pleased to be mistaken. The Ford Museum in Dearborn was remarkable, and the only reason we stopped in that area. The diesel fuel prices are what we pay for regular gas in PA, and I would enjoy having comparable roads to most of the northern MI roads in PA. We were surprised to see the apparent low density of horse ownership in the areas we traveled. While we observed several large commercial stables, few individual "back yard" owners were noted. I cannot offer enough positive remarks about this diverse state and the varied beauty we experienced. We had an enjoyable holiday, and will cherish the memories for some time. If anyone has not visited MI, I would highly recommend a visit. It is well worth your time. Gard |
