| Has anyone camped and ridden at Panther Creek in central Missouri. Any comments on the trails, riding, and campground would be appreciated. We would be interested in going there on a "non organized" ride weekend. Thanks! |

Location: missouri | If this would be a local place for you to go ride for a weekend it isnt bad, but if you are going to have to haul for a while to get there, then skip it. The stalls are decent, although the flies are bad as they just pitch the manure out in front of the stalls and come along after the weekend is over and remove it, if at all. The showers are nice, the sites are nice. the trails are okay. Most of it is in cattle pasture and at times you dont know if you are on a trail or a cattle path. One thing that is nice is if you get on a trail that is to rough, muddy you can head up the hill and be back in the cattle pasture. The one time we were there this spring one trail was really muddy and bad and we just went thru the woods up the hill and got up into the pasture and rode the pasture until we saw another trail to try. There are better places out there, we go here a few times a year because it is only an hour from home, if it was further than that we would probably not go. We are really enjoying Eagle Ranch and Slabtown.

| I agree with onemile. For a weekend fine, trails as described. We did a lot of bushwacking when were there. Onemile, were are you located? We do Slabtown quite a bit. We have a group going over to Whispering Pines this weekend. Feel free to join us if like. We all love meeting new horse people. |

Location: novinger, mo | I agree, the riding was not very good at Panther Creek. too much open cattle pasture type stuff. The campground was nothing special either.

Location: missouri | classygirl98, I am located in Holts Summit, about 4 miles north of Jefferson City. Where are you located? We were on the road the past 2 weekends trailriding so this weekend we are staying home. We are planning a ride to Eagle Ranch the end of the month first part of October. Have you rode there before? We really like it there. |

| We are about an hour and half southest of Jeff City. Near Salem, MO. We have rode and camped at Cedar Creek several times. Never been to Eagle. |

Location: Missouri | I know this is an old post, but I can't disagree more with the previous statements. My wife and I have been visiting Panther Creek for seven years now. We've stayed week long rides and spent weekends there off schedule. Campsites have plenty of room and at least 75% of the 98 sites are level. I don't know why people always say it's just open pasture riding. We have rode all the trails there and if you want to stay in the woods all day you can. The trails are well marked with ribbons. Just this past weekend we rode 16 miles there, if I had to guess we only spent about 4 miles total in pasture, just exiting one wooded trail to enter another one. The new owners have bent over backwards to be accommodating and are a joy to visit with. |

Location: Western Ar | I find it interesting all the different views on riding habits and what suits one person and doesn't the other. Some I wonder why they even ride or get out of the arena. But hey this is still America for now and to each his own. |

Location: missouri | Wow doughbelly that was a snarky comment to make about people you dont know. We are very avid trail riders. We hit the road almost every weekend of the summer and log between 5-8 hours of saddle time per day out on the trail. I feel comfortable in my views and was being honest. Panther Creek owners are nice, however this is not the best of places that Missouri has to offer. Most trail people I know dont care to ride thru cattle pastures and I found the trails in the woods at Panther Creek to be lacking. Not our cup of tea and neither is an arena. |

Location: Western Ar | Wasn't trying to be "snarky" just find it interesting what suits one person and doesn't the other. if I had a nickel for every time I heard trails are not marked.its to rocky,its to rough,its not wooded enough,water has sulpher in it,campspots not level,stalls are not covered on and on. Worst day of riding beats working or laying in a recliner. |

Location: Arkansas | I think doughbelly was just thinking how if you ride around this poor rocky hilly ground we call the Ouachitas ( I live on a 100 acre place, with Ouachita Ntl Forest on my south, east, and west borders, Muddy Creek WMA [160,000 acres] on my north border) why you just naturally know it will be rocky, unmarked, no amenities etc, you take your compass, & or GPS, and know that our mountains lie east and west, and keep up with yourself. With all that said, we also have beautiful clear rock creeks, quartz rock, beautiful scenery and wildlife. Generally never see another soul... I ride out there a lot alone, and that suits me fine. I have also enjoyed some aspects of organized riding, camaraderie around campfire, and the food! To each his own, and that's ok. Besides, I am not alone, that mule is real company! |
