We spent a lovely weekend at O'Bannon Woods in the Harrison-Crawford Forest of Southern Indiana. The camp was very clean. The trails were a bit muddy from all the rain we've had this summer, but even slogging through the mud was a ton of fun. Usually the first of Aug. is so unbearably hot and humid, but we had terrific weather. Here's Dwight in a dry creek bed. We couldn't figure out where the water went. ![IMG_1871.jpg O'Bannon Woods, 2009 picture by teapot1965](http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/teapot1965/IMG_1871.jpg?t=1250085441) A peaceful trail through the woods. ![IMG_1876.jpg O'Bannon Woods, 2009 picture by teapot1965](http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/teapot1965/IMG_1876.jpg?t=1250086019)
A beautiful picnic area overlooking the Ohio river. ![IMG_1878.jpg O'Bannon Woods, 2009 picture by teapot1965](http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/teapot1965/IMG_1878.jpg?t=1250086188)

One trail took us out to the remains of an 1800s iron bridge over the Blue river (which was brown from all the rain.) I walked out on it a little, but my buddy 'Rose' made me come back because it was making her nervous. ![IMG_1900.jpg O'Bannon Woods, 2009 picture by teapot1965](http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l79/teapot1965/IMG_1900.jpg?t=1250086485)
The only complaint I have is that the map for the horse trails is very hard to follow. It is a black and white topographical map and all those squiggly lines look alike to me. We spoke with the property manager, "Ranger Bob", who showed us a draft of a new map he is working on and it is going to be great! Hopefully it will be ready by next spring. |
