I have a 06 Sundowner 8012 (aluminum skin over steel frame) and I have not been able to find an indoor storage place for it for this winter. So I'm thinking of getting a trailer cover. Is this a good or bad idea? And if it's a good idea, anyone have a recommendation of where to get the cover, or what brand. My trailer is 30 foot on the floor...so I would probably go with a custom made cover. I just don't want to spend the money if covers damage the trailer or trap water underneath, etc.

Location: MS | I would like to know too...are they recommended? Do they rub the trailer when the wind blows? I would love one to keep the wasps out of the AC! |

Location: western PA | The trailer covers are very difficult to install if you have a hay rack or LQ equipment that is attached to the roof. You can purchase individual A/C covers at almost any RV dealer. |

I've got a roof AC unit, the refrigerator vent and a round TV antenna on top...so would it be really hard to find a cover that will fit over that stuff? |

Location: western PA | You can get a custom made cover that will fit, that's not the problem. Getting it off and on over that installed equipment, is very difficult for even two able bodied people using step ladders. A trailer with no protrusions on the roof, would be much easier to cover. It can be accomplished from the ground level, using ropes thrown across the roof, and then pulling the cover over. The LQ equipment makes it necessary to lift the cover intact onto the roof, and then spreading it out in place. It has to be carefully fit over the a/c, antennas, stack vents etc, so it won't be torn or damage the equipment. Then it is spread out and secured. I found it impractical to use a cover on a regular basis because of the installation difficulties. I would consider it as being a longer term storage covering. We store our trailers outside during the winter with no shelters. I looked into covers, and found them as being impractical for our use. We do use the individual A/C covers to protect the internals from ice and such. Gard |
