Location: MI. | We just pulled off the rotors. The front pads and rotors are wearing great but the backs are shot. The pad is gone on one side. The rotors are wearing alot worse on the inside.....And the outside is wearing only in the middle. The brakes aren't "pushing" out like they should. Dragging? Has anyone had problems with a 2005 Chevy 1 ton truck brakes? 38,000 miles......Geez! Parking brakes were dragging.

Location: MT | I have a ford one ton srw 04 with 69,000 last winter I check pads and rotors and only think I had to do was rotate my rotors. Pads looked good. |

You answered it in your first message...Your parking brakes were dragging...that is where you want to look...my first guess is your cable is binding up and NOT releasing after application...you want to see the cable movement and the retraction of the pads WHEN YOU(or someone...) RELEASES the parking brake... Get the rig on a lift and manually spin the wheels and see just how much drag there is after an application and release of the parking brakes...there should be NONE... |

Location: Tenn/Ala. | Also check the calipar slides. The calipar pushes from only one side, so it must slide freely in order for the pressure on the pads to be even. And then it must release cleanly. I would suspicion road salt, etc. would be challenging on the calipar mounting hardware. An aniti-seize type of lubricant is an acceptable lube after a thorough cleaning. |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | The rear parking brakes are seperate from the service brakes on the GM, 2500HD and 3500 trucks. They have a seperate pair of parking brake "shoes", that run against a drum surface, on the backside of the brake rotor..... Those calipers need a good cleaning and a coat of never seize when you reinstall them.... Here's a thread that may help... Location: Minneapolis, MN | When disk brake pads wear one one side, always the inside pad...or the pad that is against the pistons...is a sign on the caliper slides binding/sticking.

Location: MI. | We cleaned and greased what needed to be.......Everything is moving freely. I am hoping that due to the truck sitting for a while before we purchased it, may have been the cause. It sure is nice knowing how to do this stuff thanks to my hubby. I wouldn't want to pay a garage top dollar! |
