Location: Kansas | I have a Short-bed Dodge and a two-horse trailer that I pull. I love camping and have a tent, but wondered if there is a tent-camper that fits into the bed of the truck that pops out larger than the size of the truck bed. I have been looking on line but can't find what I have in mind... Something that folds down into the bed of my truck, but has sleeping bunks that fold or slide out over the sides (with support bars that go to the ground) that leave room in the truck bed for other stuff. I like the idea of being off the ground, but a truck bed tent would make things really cramped for my daughter and I. Anyone know of someone who makes what I am looking for? Thanks! |

Location: White Mills, Ky. | pb - I can envision what you are wanting...a truck tent that has bunks like a pop up camper that unfold on either side of the truck. Unfortunately, I don't think such a thing exists. Before we had our LQ, I also looked for something like that, with no luck. Perhaps you could contact one of the companies that make the truck tents and have them make one to your specifications. Of course, you could go to a truck camper, but that runs into a lot of $$$$. My suggestion...keep your ground tent for changing clothes and storing your gear. Buy a simple truck tent just for sleeping in. Better yet...upgrade to an LQ trailer!!! There are tons of them advertised here on HTW and the prices are getting lower every day.

Location: Tucumcari NM | Go to horsetrailercamper.com. They have a neat -looking tent package that mounts to the side of your trailer. Marla |

Location: SE Wisconsin | Actually, I just saw this, it was like a pop up camper that sat in your trunk bed, folded out on both sides to have two beds that hung off each side of the truck, and a center area for storage/standing room. All aluminum and very lightweight. I thought it was kind of cool, but it was totally screened and not much privacy from what I could see.. I'll see if I can find the link to it..

For that kind of money you could buy a used slide-in camper. Marla

Location: Vanzant, Missouri | I was thinking the same. Little expensive for a tent...truck camper would be more comfy too. |

Location: Southern New Mexico | If you look at all the pictures, it looks like a tent. It has the flaps that zip over the screens for privacy. Cool, but kinda expensive. |

Location: Kansas | Wow! That Horse Trailer Camper is interesting, but it's in Australia. Anyone interested in selling it here? The front part only has the awnings to zip-up when you want privacy - I would want the awnings to be up all the time and separate zip-up window covers. But the idea is neat. Couldn't tell how much it cost. The truck bed tent/camper is also interesting, but like you all pointed out, a bit expensive for what it is. The other concern I have with it is that if it takes up the ENTIRE area of the bed, there is no storage room left. The pictures don't show what's left over underneath for storage. I use the bed of my pickup for all of my horse and camping stuff. Of course, with this I wouln't need a tent, but what about the other gear? Thanks for the ideas folks! I'll keep looking, and if you see anything else let me know. A truck camper might be what I need after all. Hubby still is not convinced it's time to buy a LQ trailer, especially since it would require a larger truck than what we currently own. sigh... |
