Location: At the bottom of the 15thD | Has anyone ever moved their generator out of the mangers to up on the hay rack? My generator is in my manger & the exhaust and heat from it are blowing on my horses when tied to the trailer. I really don't like that! I was wondering if anyone has moved their generator from the manger to up on the hay rack. I have an onan 4000 with remote start in the living quarters and all of that stuff. Moving it does not concern me. What concerns me is that my fuel tank is under the trailer & was wondering if the generator would have a hard time picking the fuel up all the way up on top of my hay rack. Has anyone had any experience with this?

If you do move the generator to the roof, you may want to add an electric fuel pump at the tank to precharge the generator's fuel pump. Call your trailer Mfg., ask them what they use to supply fuel, when mounting the generator on the roof. |

Location: At the bottom of the 15thD | yes, I've thought about the gen-turi, but the exhaust pipe is ran about 5' under my trailer, so the heat build-up would still be there. Also, I haul 4 horses and the exhaust comes out right at one of the ties. The horse tied to that location would knock the gen-turi off of the trailer. I can't move the ties because of the awing on one side and the slide-out on the other. I've had this trailer for over 2 yrs and have looked at every possible solution. The only one that I'm left with is to move the generator to the hay rack. I thought that I might have to put a fuel pump on it, but was hoping that someone else had done this before & would tell me that I wouldn't need to. |

Location: Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain... | My understanding is that you have to add the electric fuel pump. What brand of trailer & living quarters is it. Maybe you could contact them as Retento suggested and get their recommendations. |

Location: At the bottom of the 15thD | Sundowner with "Sundowner" living quarters, which I'm pretty sure is actually made by Showtime. I have tried contacting them & waiting on a response. I was just hoping, like I said, that someone had already done this and could give me a little info as to what I'm getting into. thanks... |

Location: Central Arkansas | If you move the generator from the manger to the hayrack, you will need a whole new wiring harness since they can not splice the old wiring. If it is gas or diesel, you will need the electric fuel pump to pump the fuel up to the generator. I have had this done on trailers I have owned - with great success.It cost about $1800. Personally, I love having the generator up on top! Where are you located? if in the south..... Eddie @ Trailers Unlimited in Fayetteville TN can do it! They are a Sundowner dealer also but do work on all brands. |

Location: Ottawa, Illinois 61350 | Just as a note: "Sundowner Living Quarters" are not made by Showtime. Unless a Sundowner shell was sold as a shell and Showtime done the living quarters; it will be "SUNDOWNER LIVING QUARTERS". When a trailer is ordered from Sundowner with a roof rack mounted Generator; there is an optional fuel lift pump and wiring harness that goes with it. |

Something I on my older Exiss we had was went to the local muffler shop and had them turn the exhaust and run it to the other side of the trailer towards the rear corner. Actually a muffler shop could run it out anywhere you want it away from the horses and LQ.... This is much cheaper than moving the generator. |

Location: At the bottom of the 15thD | I have re-routed my exhaust, but I'm still getting the same effect. I routed the exhaust through the tack room wall and then up through the roof. I used double-walled exhaust tubing that was wrapped with exhaust wrap. No heat around the pipe at all. With the double-walled pipe and wrap all of the heat is kept in the pipe & shot out of the tip. The reason there is heat blowing on my horses legs is because there is a hole in the bottom of the manger under the generator that allows heat from the generator itself to escape. This is truly become a major headache for me!!!!!!!!!!! |

The only way to keep that from happening is move the horses to the off side or spend the bucks to move the generator to the top of the trailer.

Why can't another harness be spliced into the old? Splices, some dry and some waterproof are made for every gauge of wire. You need only the appropriate crimping tool and splice. With those, you can join any assortment of wiring without replacing the whole lot. Gard |

Location: Arkansas | Move the vent, that is the cooling air (non-exhaust), from the side (toward the horses) and vent it out the floor, perhaps that could be done....Ours is in the rear tack and vented out the bottom, intaking through a louvered screened vent in the door. Works great! |

Location: Arkansas | When I wire, I use a direct wire twist, covered in marvelous tough heat shrink tubing....watertight, and strong. Works well and not expensive. |

Most of the Onan and Generac's that are roof mounted have their own enclosures... Some of the nice looking aluminum tread plate boxes are built by the trailer Mfg's. Or you could....
