Location: Missouri | I have some lettering I'd like to remove from an aluminum trailer. The trailer is older and has been acid washed a few times and the lettering was put on when the trailer was new. I have removed lettering before, and there was always a silhouette left, even after a good acid bath. Is there something else I can do? Thanks! |

To have it look like the rest of the trailer, you will have to artificially degrade its appearance to match the surrounding area. A green Scotch bright pad on a sander will dull the metal. Several applications of Muriatic acid, will lighten the metal's colouration. If you polish the area, it will be brighter than the rest, just the opposite of what you want. It's labour intensive, but you can machine polish the original surrounding area to match the area under the decal. If you polished the whole trailer, this would result in a trailer with a brand new appearance. Gard |
