Would you like to learn more about your GPS?  Then, mark May 16th on your calendar and plan to attend a GPS Clinic presented by the Lone Star Equine Council.  This event is open to horseback riders and hikers.  After the clinic, lunch will be available for a suggested $5 donation and then riders will have the chance to test their new skills with a Poker Run and hikers will have a Scavenger Hunt.  The event is open to adults and children so Girl Scouts troops, Boy Scout troops, 4H Clubs and other youth organizations are encouraged to join the fun.  All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

The clinic will be held at the Brockdale trailhead on Trinity Trail on Lake Lavon in Lucas , TX .  The cost for the GPS Class and Equine Poker Ride is $20 and the cost for the GPS Class and Scavenger Hunt is $15.  Multiple family members may register at a reduced rate.  Registration begins at 9 AM and the class will start at 10 AM and last until approximately noon.  The Poker Run and Scavenger Hunt will begin after lunch. Horses and hikers will each have their own dedicated section of trail.  An RSVP by May 14th  is required to ensure your spot.  RSVP to Donna Carmickle at 214-882-0833 or via email to babycarm@aol.com.  In the event of rain, the event will be held on May 30th.

Bring your lawn chair and your GPS.  Equestrians should bring a valid Coggins Certificate for each horse.  A map of the Lavon area is available at www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/lavon.

If you are coming from out of town, there are equestrian campsites available at East Fork Park .  The morning of the event you would have to trailer to the Brockdale trailhead or ride 9 miles from East Fork to Brockdale.  You can make reservations at www.recreation.gov.  The equestrian sites are E01 through E11.

The Lone Star Equine Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the unified interests of the horse community in the Collin County area.  The group works to protect and promote the interests of horsemen no matter what their specialty or interest. Check out their website at www.lsec.homestead.com.
