I am looking at a 2005 Ford F350 Crew Cab Long box diesel. It has the built in brake controller. Of course the owners manuel is missing. What are the Aux 1,2,3,4 switches for? It's not from a Ford dealer and this guy really isn't sure .

Thanks in advance for your help.

Anything you want them to be for. They terminate under the hood near the fire wall color coded wire ends right in the harness leaving the cab. I think switch 4 can be set up that when you depress your emergency brake the truck will go into a high idle for winch or tow set up. There is a lot of info on the upfitter switches. I bought them for my truck and haven't hooked anything up to them yet I just had to have them. Cool Stuff. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/409720-hooking-up-high-idle-w-upf...

The built in Trailer brake is great, I think it is called "Tow Command" mine of course does not have it but my neighbors does, tap the brakes twice and it will slow you down the mountain, we have come down a seventeen mile grade that will push you to 70 or 80 if you just let the truck run at 25 with 2 taps of the tow command system.

The switches are "upfitter" switches another upgrade they are for what ever cool toys you want to add, ask the current owner if he is using them for anything.

Owners manual - http://www.analogstereo.com/ford_f250_owners_manual.htm

Hope that helps

The upfitter switches are for any thing you want to hook up. Two switches are 10 amp and two switches are 30 amp.  No need to drill holes in you dash for Fog light switch, Exhaust Brake Switch , Snow Plow etc.   And yes you can wire one of the switches so that it will activate a high idle in case you want to run engine at a higher rpm ie if you want the alternator to put out more voltage for an invertor, or if you have the tranmission power take off on the tanny.  But there seems to be a lot of folks just using it to warm up their engine. The end of the wires are tucked up under the dash behind the fuse panel.

The integrated trailer brakes controller is just that. Its a built in brake controller that is tied to your trucks antilock brakes. It DOES NOT preform as described above. Tapping the brakes and having the truck hold back is a function of the Engine/Tranny.  and will happen on any 2003 6.0L or newer Power stroke diesel engine regardless of whether you have the integrated brake controler or not. This is more a function of the Variable vane Turbo shutting down the vanes ( reducing airflow through the engine) The tranny downshifting and the torque convertor staying locked up so that you experience engine braking. The brake controller works ONLY when the brake pedal is drepressed sending braking signals to the trailer brakes.  If you are just coasting with out touching the brake pedal, then controller does nothing.

Tow Cammand is a package of options that includes the integrated brake controller, heavy duty reciever hitch and telescoping trailer mirrors.

My integrated brake controller has worked well with numerous trailers. From a 4 horse LQ to a 2000 lb bumper pull.

Hmmmmm ----

Are you sure that is a VVT function ? because my truck an '03 6.0 will force an RPM increase to do that the neighbors '05 Tow Command Truck will not force a downshift like mine will.

His is clearly braking from either the trans or elsewhere, as the RPMs will not increase or force a downshift to slow the truck, his seems to work alot like the Allison 1000's in the Chevy Trucks.

Maybe he has added something that I am unaware of but I have sat in the truck with 18K on the back ( yes I know we were overloaded ) and watched it come down the grades on I-15 and other big Utah passes and slow the truck.

I am going to go ask in the morning if it is an aftermarket trans or ???

I had an 03 with out the Integrated and now have an 06 with the integrated brake controller.

I've also added an BD Exhaust brake to mine so that I can bring my 16,000lb trailer down Parleys ( on I-80), Daniels Summit ( on US 40) or over Trappers Loop and down off the San Rafael Swell into Green River on I-70 (That stretch has 3 run away truck ramps). I usually only touch my brakes once at the top to get the first downshift and stay with in the speed limit all the way down.

The integrated Brake Controller DOES NOT operate the brakes with out the driver. You either touch the brake pedal ( which applies both the Truck and the trailer brakes) or touch the button on the control ( which applies the trailer only brakes)

I agree with PH. Ford models with Torque Shift control de-acceleration and acceleration gearing have nothing to do with the brakes. I have found lots of info on the Diesel forums. Especially I did not know that when cold the tranny shifts 1-2-3-4-6 waiting until warm to shift 1-2-3-4-5-6 interesting stuff out there. We have few massive grades until we get up in NH, Maine and NY. Up there I have run into a few situations that the torque shift certainly did its best to slow us down but really needed my intervention on the brakes.

The TorqueShift tranny does have 2 front and 3 back gear cogs. This combination does produce a possiblity of 6 gears. But two of the gears are so close in ratio as to be ineffective in difference. (I've heard it's one tooth difference) So the tranny always skips one of those two gears as it upshifts and downshifts. Whether it's warm or cold. It skips one of them. That's why it's listed as a 5 speed tranny on all the ford literature.

The built in brake controller is used in the same manner any other brake controller is used, just placed by the factory.  I have a 2008 F450 with this on it and I really like it, you adjust it the same way as any other and it functions either with the truck brake pedal or you can manually activate it.  Have fun
