Location: Arkansas | OK...I got the info off of my receiver hitch and truck and I want to run it by some of you guys to see what you think.Hitch stats - on the receiver it says "Weight Carrying" (max. trailer weight (lbs.) = 5,000 lbs and (max. tongue weight (lbs.) = 500 lbs ."Weight Distributing" (max. trailer weight (lbs.) = 10,000 lbs and (max. tongue weight (lbs.) = 1,000 lbs.Now, for the truck - it is a 1996 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 it is a 5.7L V8 Vortech Automatic .....the axle ratio's in the owner's manual say if the axle ratio is 3.42 then the "max. trailer weight" is 6,000 lbs. or if the axle ratio is 3.73 then the "max. trailer weight" is 7,000 lbs.I can't find it anywhere (in the owners manual, on the inside of the doors, etc.) where I can find which gear ratio this truck has (the manual has both axle ratio's listed on my model of truck).Does anyone know where I could find this information at?And by these stats - what is the biggest trailer I can tow?I am wanting at least a regular 2 horse bumper pull trailer fully loaded (1 horse weighing in at about 1500 lbs to 1800 lbs, a few sq. bales of hay and some gear) ...but would like to have a 2 horse bumper pull with a small dressing room and collapsible tack fully loaded (with about the same gear as above) |

Location: Arkansas | See, I don't know for sure if it is a Z71 or if it has the same package. It doesn't have the Z71 on the side, it just has 4x4 there.I've had people say that it is the same as a Z71 just that it doesn't have the skid plate under the engine that the Z71 has...and that was the only difference between the two. But that's just what I've heard from a couple of people and I am not for sure if they really knew what they were talking about either.Is there any other way to find out? |

Location: sc | In the glove box there will be a sticker with RPO codes on it. GU6 = 3.42 GT4 = 3.73 GT5 = 4.10 A 6000# limit is plenty for most any 2H BP trailer out there. My 2H slant is steel and measures 15' long x 6''8" wide x 7' tall, no rear tack, weighs 3500# empty. Comes in at 6K with two horses and tack/stuff for day rides. With an aluminum trailer or only one horse you would easily be under the 6000#, possibly under 5000#. You will need a WDH due to the 500 WC limit of you hitch though. And dont forget the P3. |

Location: Florida | You might try calling Chevy and asking for the build sheet on your truck. I have gotten this for every truck I have had. Not only does it help you understand what was added when built but when you sell it off you have the details for the next owner. jim |

Location: Arkansas | There was no RPO code in the glovebox....but I did call the local Chevy dealership and gave the the VIN # off the truck and requested a build sheet...the guy told me that it has the 3.42 axle ratio on my truck. And he said the build sheet didn't give any information regarding the towing capacity. But by the owner's manual it say the 3.42 axle ratio has a maximum trailer weight of 6,000 lbs.So would it still be safe and/or able to haul a 2 horse straight/slant load tandem axle bumper pull with small dressing room and collapsible tack? Probably be a steel trailer unless I get lucky and find an aluminum trailer.As long as I get a P3 brake system and a weight distributing hitch?Also, does anyone know by the previous posts, what 'class' my receiver hitch is? |

I thought it would be just as easy as hitting enter but I've also been doing it on previous posts (it shows up as I am typing it up, but once I post it, it puts all of it together)See this should be the start of a new paragraph as well...word...then enterword...then enterwordIt just runs it all togetherretento - It seems to not be working for me...
