I am a buyer-in-waiting.  I know what I want, $ in hand.  Have looked at several different trailers at different dealers.  None have come off their asking price in any significant way.  If there are any dealers willing to deal, contact me.

3 horse, mangers desired, 6.0 refrigerator, fold out couch, 7.5' high, sink in bath, hydraulic or electric jack, usual accoutrements elsewhere. Seems to mean a 9' or 10' sw. Pulling with a 2000 Chevy 2500 4x4.

Try looking for some private sales. I've always had better experiences buying used equipment from individuals. They don't have the overhead costs, and are usually more amenable, when being asked for a lower sales price than advertised.

A Buyers market doesn't always mean the dealers are getting a better price when they purchase.  The cost to build things has not gone down in price. For example, Health Insurance is not cheaper. Tires are not cheaper,  Steel and other metals have not dropped in prices substantially. I doubt that the cost of a 6 foot fridge is cheaper this year than last. So a new product will probably not be cheaper except for the dealer getting a little skinny on his margin. A dealer may be willing to loose money on a trailer in inventory rather than sit on excess inventory. But I suspect most dealers have cut way back on any trailers they were bringing in for inventory.

Yes, I understand that. What about cash flow. A buyer's market exists because of the need for cash flow.

Yes, I believe that the only inventory is what is on the lot.  I can't imagine any dealer bringing in anything new. Don't really think there is anything new at manufacturers level to bring in. Again, where is the buyer's market?

I have to disagree...

I am also in the market for a trailer very similar to what you are describing.  I have looked at various lots here in TN and even close to Louisville.  Some of the lots are not dropping their prices that much.  However there are other lots that are real competitive in their pricing.  When you take the trailer they offer and compare to others, they are below in most cases.  Heart of Kentucky Trailers (which is a dealer on this site) has had some of the best deals I have located.  It just takes time to locate a dealer sometimes and be willing to travel a little ways to find a good deal.

So TRUE so dealerships jack up prices on same/similar trailers. We saved $thousands by spending money in IN rather than almost double for same trailer in IL dealersip on trailer there that was 3 years old.So use web and get all info you can and spend little money on gas/fuel and private people are getting outa horses and alot trailers are showing up on here and orther sites at HOT(great deals).Shop around and why if dealership $$$$$ and spend on barely used trailers.JMHO

A buyer's market simply means that there is more product out there than demand for product. While manufacturers and dealers may be willing to take less margin to sell a unit, costs are still costs. If they start taking below cost for their product, they are not making profit. Profit is why anyone is in business. Sell below cost = Making no profit. Making no profit = Going out of business sale. Or if you are the auto industry = Auto bailout money.

Cash flow is why you are NOT seeing better deals. Most dealers floor plan invetory, so if they sell it below dealer cost then they have to take money out of the bank to pay the difference.

My dealer friends tell me they don't make much money anyway. Sure at MSRP they can make 30-40%, but most already drop that price way down to advertise. So there's not really anything more for them to give.

I'd price edxactly what you are looking for with several different dealers to see how much difference there is, than compare this pricing against used. Check with dealers close to where the trailers are manufactured to see if they are less expensive (there's a lot in oklahoma), because freight is always a pretty big expense.  Be careful with "too good to be true" pricing, as there are some dealers in trouble and they will say and do things that are not true. Believe it or not, "businesses are perfectly desinged to get the results they get" (a quote i heard a long time ago that makes a lot of sense)

I would have to agree that dealers are subject to financial constraints when pricing their products, and as a result, their present sales efforts may not reflect a "buyer's market".

However in the used trailer segment, featuring units sold by private individuals, I would say that not only has the "buyer's market" started, but it is fully on its way. I just went to the HTW used trailer section, and entered a few of my favourite brands. I found many, of every size and option. Most that were only a few years old were advertised for about half the cost of a new unit. In everyone of my purchases, I have been able to obtain the trailers for less than the advertised prices.

So maybe in the new trailer, dealer sourced market, I will have to agree there isn't much change. However, in the personally offered, used market, it is wide open to anyone willing to check the want adds. There are good trailers of many brands, presently available to whomever is ready for their ownership.

Stand firm. There's a big mark up on trailers somewhere. Maunufacture or dealer.I hear some dealers are starving.Let them unless they want to deal.Last year I tried buying in my area and was able to buy several states away at THOUSANDS less including delivery once I started really shopping.I've been shopping furniture and running into a few places that swear their sales are GREAT and won't deal. Then I have found LOTS of others willing to deal at almost any above cost offers to get it moved out.Several conversion companys I talked to said the plug had been pulled on them to convert because nothing was moving worth a hoot.

Well, I too am looking for a "new" used trailer.  Does anyone know where a good market for buyers might exist?  I live in Texas, but fly free because hubby is a retired pilot.  So going to look at stuff is easy.  I'm not in a hurry and won't buy until I find what I want at the price I want to pay.  Suggestions?

Source the HTW want adds. Punch in the states in which you are interested, or none if you want to travel country wide. We've purchased two trailers and sold one through their services, with excellent results.

I don't mean to hijack the tread but I have a 2003 Sundowner LQ with 8' shortwall, big refrigerator, solar charger, hydraulic jack....4 horse....for sale.  Reason for selling...I have only slept in it one night since October 2006!  It is an expensive ornament sitting in my driveway. My little stock trailer is all the trailer I need these days.

I know one of the posters was looking for a 3 horse.  My first stall has the full-height stud divider and can be used as a storage area/midtack.

I plan to get some pics soon and will probably list it on HTW.  I've had several lookers locally, but no one has shown up with their checkbook in hand :-(

Not to mention its really annoying as a reader to check in on a thread and find out the only new posts are trailer ads.

Moderators, can't posters be "spanked" for posting for sale posts in the chat section?

I think most of the replies that mentioned their trailer DO have them posted here on HTW and were just bringing them to my attention.  I was the one that asked the question and I think the responses were appropriate.  Not so much different ones hijacking my thread!!
