Location: Hillsborough, NC | Hi, my son was trying to lower my gooseneck trailer onto my truck & the battery wasn't fully charged so it only raised it more insteadof lowering it. The problem is he raised it all the way and now it won't come down. The battery is fully charged now and the motor is going but the jack won't come down. It doesn't have a manual handle to use. Maybe you could take the weight off with an auto floor jack. And it may have just jumped off the gear. Or the leg moved out of line because it went to high and is just jammed off the gear. Could there be a shear pin? |

It is a very common mistake people make using an elect. jack. If you pick up or lower the jack all the way to the stopping point it only takes a split second to strip it out. That's one of the reasons most trailer dealers and manufacturers are only offering the hydraulic jacks these days. They don't strip out. The gear is relatively easy to change out. If it's a Equalizer you can call them and they can send you one, or you can call your local dearer and they may have one. You can over ride the jack with your crank handle. Good Luck |

Location: Hillsborough, NC | Thank you everyone. It is an electric/hydraulic jack. There is a reservoir bottle with hydraulic fluid by the motor. I don't know where to put a manual handle and don't have one. All the local repair shops are closed for the weekend. It didn't lower all the way, it's actually raised up all the way and putting lots of pressure on the rear tires. It is a 2004 Kiefer Built 3h with 12' LQ so it is very heavy & I don't have a floor type jack that would hold all that weight. I would use my tractor bucket to hold the weight but I'm afraid I'd break it also. I'm just so frustrated & really need my trailer. I appreciate all help and any additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Have you disconnected the battery since the last time it worked correctly? |

From the Equalizer website... “The jack only runs in one direction” Verify appropriate battery voltage. Verify that all wires are attached appropriately. For the MTE style pump, the "...jack will only run in the extend direction if the battery does not have enough capacity to operate the motor and shift the directional valve ..." |

Location: Hillsborough, NC | Thank you Hosspuller, yes I was able to talk with the Equalizer guy, Dave, this morning. He was kind enough to call me back after I left a message and he 'walked me through' everything. I needed to 'reset' the directional control valve (I think that's it's name) and then I was able to manually raise the jack and then once it retracted part way and the weight was off the jack it straightened out and then the electric/hydraulic part worked again just fine. You all were wonderful & the Equalizer website & phone # was just what I needed. Thank you all so much again. |

Our jack would only push down and not pull up. Husband drained the hydraulic fluid off to release preasure and lowered the trailer on the truck hitch. Took a pry bar to push the jacks up into place and replaced the hydraulic line. Wish I would have read the this post last night. Seems like there is an electrical connection problem in one of the terminals. At one point while checking them it went on for a brief second. But at least I can take it to get repaired this evening. I am so thankful I was not going out for a trip, I was actually just taking it down to get inspected. |

Took it to the repair man and he showed me were there was a bad connection on the solenoid that reverses polarity. The connection was melted from being over heated from trying to lift the jack while the battery was low. |
