I will never understand how some humans can be so frickin' cruel! I have known about this for a few years and it still makes me ill to know that it continues to go on.I am sorry if I am going to offend anyone, but China needs to change! There are no human rights there and they have NO respect for any of the poor animals that live in that country.Shameful.

I totally agree. This is just downright sickening. Just as I think the deliberate fighting of any animal (dog, cat, roosters, horses, bears, etc is horrid). I am no PETA fan by far, but pitting an animal against another animal in small confined areas is sick.

Its their country, they can do what they want. We cannot stop them so I just don't see the point in wasting energy here.

PS PETA doesn't care about animal rights  its all poltical folks. China for them is a role model for good government.

I have never heard of it. Reading about it made me sad. The mentality of those people shocks me. It is ignorance in my eyes. I didn't ask to get PETA involved. I just wanted to express my feelings towards it.

There are just some things I'm better off not seeing.  This is probably one of those things.

Amen, Rose.  I've been doing that for about a year now.  Can't always, sometimes I just have to break down and buy "imported crap" from China, but I read labels on everything, and if I can find it from USA - I buy it.  And I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to buy any food from China.  Read your labels.  I loved the little cans of mandarin oranges.  Discovered they were all imported from China.  Don't tell me that that CA, Florida, or south TX couldn't grow them.

I just checked my Diamond brand can of mandarin oranges. They came from China. I'm not going to buy them anymore.

'We" are very protected and isolated from lots of things that go on in the other parts of this world. The horse fighting as well as bulls/water Buffalo have been on YOUTUBE for years.I saw videos of horse fighting several years back from China and other countrys. They fight anything that will fight in many countrys. They think WE are the ones that don't get it.

cock fighting has been outlawed in all but two states, with New Mexico being one of them. There is a man here who raises fighting cocks and sees nothing wrong with it. He is an otherwise decent human being. It is hard to understand someone who can be so caring toward people and dogs and yet still be so bloodthirsty. Go figure!

I thought NM recently banned cock fighting.  I remember seeing people interviewed on the news that said they would do it anyway because it was "tradition".

We did ban it.   http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/06/us/06fight.html

I'm glad to know that! I was aware of the controversy for several years, but the bill had been defeated four times the last time I checked. The local breeder still has hundreds of birds.

There are a couple of breeders around here.  I was told that one will take his birds into Mexico to fight once a month or so.

I don't know how the law reads, but it may be that it is just illegal to fight the birds, not to breed them.  You know that they are not feeding them for the love of the birds.  There is significant money comming from somewhere.

Its not illegal to breed them or own them. Some places I go by going to the vet etc .has dozens of these birds staked out and their little houses .Big business .It was like this around here long before the Hispanics came in .I'm 20 miles outside Athens Georgia(UGA)and about 80 miles from the heart of downtown Atlanta. I will tell you want the Hispanics brought in here .Horse RACING .Same feed store near me sells and carry's racing plates now and I've seen a beat up car pull up and a man/women buy $100 plus bucks of racing plates and $800 bucks of vitamins, needles etc .No feed .I want to go to the track near here and watch .Been going strong about 3 years and has been busted for gambling several times by undercover law enforcement.A big Mexican resturant near the Mall the owner of it supposly owns the land and runs horses of his own etc.

I think the law states that it is illegal to maintain and train birds for fighting purposes.  Of course they would have to prove that he was keeping the birds for fighting.  But he would be breaking the law if he was training them and he'd be dumb to take a untrained bird down to Mexico to fight.  Unless he was betting against his own birds, which wouldn't work for long as people started to figure out that his birds kept loosing.
