Location: ortonville, mi | I have a 2007 living quarter all aluminum trailer only used 2 x, all decked out. At the time i bought it i could afford the payments . Now with the economy the way it is i cannot afford it. i am scrapeing by on the payments. Anyway i have it at the dealership to be sold but it is a tough economy and i am getting no hits, nor the dealership. I am tempted to let the bank take it back but then there goes my excellent credit. i paid 63000 for the trailer and it even smells new since horses were in it 2 x and only for 1/2 hour each time. We even lowered the price down to sell. Has anyone else been in this predicament and what have you done? i am getting desparate. |

Location: western PA | You will have to advertise outside of your area, which has some of the highest unemployment in the nation. HTW is widely read and other Internet sites are as well. This particular site has done well for us, we've purchased two trailers and sold one through its advertising. A trailer such as yours priced correctly, should interest people willing to drive to your location. One buyer just told us of driving sixteen hours, to purchase a used trailer. Trying to sell within your area will be extremely difficult. The Internet has a world wide readership and the advertising is very inexpensive, for the amount and diversity of the people you can access. I wish you the best and hope you can get through this mess relatively easily. BOL Gard |

Location: KY | Spread the word about your trailer on all the sites you can find, starting here at HTW with an ad, then go to other sites.....such as: <script language=JavaScript>/* You may give each page an identifying name, server, and channel on the next lines. */var pageName = "Trailers";/**** DO NOT ALTER ANYTHING BELOW THIS LINE! ****/var code = ' '; <script src="http://code.superstats.com/code/ss/vsign_2896306/0/30b"><script language=JavaScript>br = navigator.appName + parseInt(navigator.appVersion);if (code != ' ' || br == 'Netscape2') document.write(code);else document.write(''+ ' '); <noscript> Trailers Wanted!
We have several people wanting good used trailers. If you have a trailer that you want to sell, please let us know. We have a big paved parking lot and are right on NC Hwy 9 - in the middle of Carolina horse country.

Location: Northern Utah | I went a similar problem this year. I paid cash for my trailers and other toys. But this recession has put a bind on my finances. So I put my LQ trailer up for sale and when it sold bought a used non-LQ trailer that was half the price of my Living Quarters trailer. With the cash I got out of it, I was able to take care of some other obligations. I put my trailer on several websites. It took about 4 months before I got a serious offer. I got a lot of offers that didn't make sense, that I had to just ignore. I hated to sell a 1 year old trailer, because I took a $4000 loss and I know if I try to go buy a new LQ trailer the price will be higher than what I paid 2007. But I just had to tell myself that in my ultimate financial situation it was the best decision. You need to look at what is the best course for you. I don't encourage anybody to give items back to their banks. But if that is the choice you have to pursue, go talk to your bank and be proactive about it. It will be much less damaging to your credit if the bank shows a deed in liew of foreclosure vs 4 months of late payments and a repossession. Any thing that is negative on your credit will affect your ability to borrow money in the future. If you own your home and don't anticipate having to take out a new mortgage in the next 7 years. You could take a hit on your credit report and 7 years from now it will wash it self off. If you think that you may be required to move (because of job changes or family needs) in the next couple of years. It could really destroy your ability to get a new mortgage. This may force you to not take a career advancement because you would n't be able to buy a home where ever you had to move to. Or you may have to pay a sub-prime rate on your next mortgage. We are even seeing companies pulling credit reports as a back ground check on potential new employees. A bad credit report may be the reason for not getting a new job. We are in a recession. The value of almost everything is receeding. You can expect to loose money on the trailer. It doesn't matter that you only used it twice. Recognize this and come to terms with the loss. Decide what you will consider a reasonable loss. If you have a loan on the trailer, you may be getting offers that are for less than you owe. You will have to decide if it's worth it to you to get out of the monthly payments, but have to write the bank a check for the deficit on the loan when you sell the trailer. But sometimes selling it for a smaller loss now will be better than selling it for even bigger loss later on. I don't see December as a great month to sell a trailer. People are spending their money on Christmas. If you can hold on till spring, When folks start thinking of being out with their horses, you may get more money for your trailer. If the recession deeping and things continue to get worse, you may get less than what you can get today. I'm a builder, I find that people are no longer looking for good deals on homes. They are now looking for absolute STEALS. But there is always a buyer if the price is right. Only you know what is the right choice for you. Take a loss on your trailer or take a hit on your credit. |

Location: washington | Fall and winter are the best times to buy a trailer, especially a LQ trailer. Try to hang in there and wait for a buyer... I sold a trailer on the Craigslist website and a traile on Tacktrader. I advertised both trailers on this website too, but I didn't get any hits off this site. Always be on the lookout for the idiots who are trying to scam you... they usually can't spell, speak broken english, want to pay more than you are asking and tell you it's for the "shipping costs" and have you pay to ship the trailer to them, etc... their money is of course, no good. I did not know about that stuff until I advertised a trailer for sale. Man on man, the idiots came out of the woodwork!! |

Location: Home of Wild Turkey Whiskey | Tell us more about this trailer, How much do you owe? If it's sellable then that's what I would do, even at payoff to save your credit rating. If you borrowed 100% for 20 years then that may not be an option. |

Location: ortonville, mi | it is a 4 star, 4 horse slant with full living quarters and almost all the extras, large water tank, werm flooring. 7 ft 6 high , 8 ft wide. it is actually on horsetrailerworld.com , the dealer does have it advertised and i actually did have it on here before they listed it. I have since lowered the price even more, but no hits. One person was interested but then couldn't get financing. I do think it is hard to sell here in michigan. The same trailer with the same options seems to go for around 75000 if you look say under texas. Mine for the year and options is way lower than alot of the other ones on here. I know it only takes one right person and they just haven't come along yet. |

| Your trailer is priced a little high compared to new trailers. I think people will spend a little more on new if the price is close to used. Like Dave Ramsey says, sell it quick, take your loss and go on with life. You're paying interest every day on your loan. |

Location: North of Detroit, MI | Another problem is that financing is more available and cheaper when buying a new vehicle than a used one. You could try posting it on as many Craigslists as you can throughout the US. For instance in Texas, try to find the CList around Pilot Point - where there are a large number of high-end farms. Ocala, FL. In AZ in the Phoenix area for Cave Creek, etc. Have you worked with any national magazines? Western Horseman, Equus, Horse & Rider, that type? Are you willing to deliver it? Add in a load of hay if you're advertising in Florida or the southwest. |

Location: Western WA | vweedon, Kudos for trying to not advertise via the forum, says alot about your ethics and should go a long ways in establishing trust with potential buyers who might be on the forum. Two ideas in helping sell it: 1) Include a link to your HTW ad in your signature line and make sure to include it in all your posts. Its not offensive, in that someone interested can click on it, otherwise its just part of your signature line. 2) Offer free delivery. Looks like a beautiful trailer. Good luck! |

Location: Northern Utah | Beautiful trailer. Wish I could afford it. But I don't take loans out on toys. The construction business is too unstable to depend on being able to make payments. Good luck. I like the suggestion of finding somebody to share the trailer with. A good friend of mine recently bought a $100,000+ trailer. He partnered with a fellow who could afford it, but didn't want to use it much or take care of it. My friend gets to use it 80-90% of the time, his friend rarely uses it but gets 1st choice when he does want it. He is extremely fussy about taking care of stuff, has the money to fix anything he breaks. My friend has two non-LQ trailers he can use if the primary person takes the big trailer. So it works out great for the two of them. |

Location: Holland, Tx | I wish I had some spare cash laying around. We were planning on purchasing a 4H LQ off a friend this next year (before all the economic disasters became a reality) and now I've pretty much pushed off those thoughts as well. |

Location: ortonville, mi | i wouldn't want to go in with somebody on the trailer as i let a trainer borrow my other trailer i had before this one and their horse kicked my new trailer all the way to oklahoma and back and dented the wall so bad and ripped the rubber and then their tailgate fell down and smashed the automatic jack. this was also a new 4 star and so the insurance damage went under me and it cost me $2000. So unfortunately i have to sell it. i have some new options i am looking at with all of the ideas that have been presented. |

Location: North of Detroit, MI | Glad that you found a hauler. If you hadn't, I was going to suggest a friend's brother in Otisville. He moves RVs for people, between campsites and homes and/or storage spots. He is "horsey"... : ) I hope for the best for you. |

Location: Shawnee, Oklahoma | As a dealer, I get calls from people in your predicament every week. Normally, they have high dollar trailers that they bought with no down payment or no payments for 6 months, deferred interest, etc. In other words, they bought if they could afford the payment at the time, but set themselves up to have no equity in the trailer if they had a change in income. Your trailer will probably sell if you can get it under $50k and take the hit. It's a buyer's market, and right now, people are buying on price! I would definitely take the hit on price before I hurt my excellent credit. With your good credit, your bank will probably let you settle for a lesser price and allow to pay out the balance with much cheaper payments. At least you have a 4-Star, that will help. Free delivery will help too. We'll be seeing more and more of this until the economy straightens up. |

Location: Northern CA | Too bad it wasn't a 3 horse. I would have traded you my '06 2 horse all aluminum GN for yours and then taken over payments for the rest owed or something like that.(under-trucked for a 4 horse LQ) How about posting on Craigslist or all the horsie sites telling your story? Ask (BEG) everyone to donate $5- or even $1- could be a whole hell of a lot of people willing to help? I would donate $10- to ya to help out. How about the rest of ya out there?? |

Location: Hagerstown, MD | Tough situation, but you have a lot of options and some suggestions here on the site have been very creative and interesting as well. There is one more that I would like to offer; have you thought about rolling the horse trailer and your home mortgage together? That is, if you have equity in a home? We did something like that earlier this year. We had a mortgage that was about to go adjustable and we waited to get a good rate and get it done before our fixed expired. My wife worked the numbers over really hard and figured out that rolling our lq 3h into the mortgage and paying it off would actually save us money on our payments. No brainer. Did it. Happy. Happy trails, deranger |
