| Okay, bought new (used) to us horse trailer that had been setting who ever had put in the living quarters did bad job, reg insulation cheap panneling lots of leaks and mildew ect. We have taken it back to the bare walls It has obviously leaked, It is hard to tell exactly where all, What is the best way to know where to caulk or do you just caulk every where. do you try to trim off the old caulk? What is the best caulk to use, what about the air conditioning unit and satellite dish, what is the best way to make sure there is no leaks there, it also was wet around the windows, or could this be from the ceiling leaking down? before we start adding insulation and ect want to be sure no leaks. It is a Kiefer built trailer, is there somewhere that you can get insulation that is the right width?Appears to need inch and 1/4. Thank you in advance for all your help. |

Location: western PA | When recaulking, it is important to remove as much of the old caulking material as possible, before any new caulk is installed. Since you have everything opened and accessible, it would be an ideal time to inspect and recaulk the seams. The strongest and long lasting caulks are polyurethane marine caulks. 3M 5200 series, and Sikaflex 292 or 221 are good choices for interior or exterior applications. It would be counter productive to use a short lived caulk behind a permanent panel, particularly if your trailer is a "keeper". Use the best products and do it once. Gard
