Location: Lexington, SC | Went to go to work this afternoon but when I cranked up my truck I had no power brakes or stirring. Truck is a 2006 Chevy Silverodo 2500HD with big tow package and just over 16,000 miles. I had it inspected just yesterday and everything was fine. There were no lights on on the display panel to tell you what was wrong either. Hubby is calling dealership to have it towed tomorrow because I can't drive it there safely. Any ideas why both would go out at same time? |

Location: Rocky Mount N.C. | GM Hydroboost Your power brakes are boosted off the power steering pump. Check belt, fluid level.... Pressure relief valve may be sticking/stuck. Call dealership. Hydroboost is a brake booster that adds supplemental pressure to the braking system via pressurized fluid from the power steering pump. Fluid flows from the power steering pump, through the booster, and then onto the steering box. When the brake pedal is not in use, fluid flows through the booster to the steering box. When the brake pedal is depressed, pressurized fluid flows through a spool valve into a chamber in the booster. This fluid exerts a force on a piston in the unit which pushes on the master cylinder and provides assist to the brakes. The booster also has a part called an accumulator in it that stores the pressurized fluid and allows at least one assisted pump of the brakes if the engine quits running. |

Location: Lexington, SC | Thanks for the info at least now I understand why both would go out at the same time. Dealership is towing it in to the shop tomorrow just was wondering what was happening. |

Location: Mid Tenn | I had the same thing happen to our 07 Duramax about a month ago while on a trip to Michigan. Checked everything and couldn't find anything wrong. Rebooted the engine several times over about a 20 minute period and the problem corrected itself. After returning home I had the dealer check to see if there were any codes present. They didn't find anything. It has not happened again. You might just try restarting it a few times. Worked for me. Good Luck. |

Location: sc | retento hit it on the head. Good luck at the dealer, 99% chance they will not find anything wrong. Just like TSprint2 said. Start and restart it a few times, pump the brake and turn the steering wheel.......power will probably come back. I'm not a fan of the Hydra-boost system............... |
