As you know we are trying to find a used LQ trailer and have asked about an Exiss we found and was talked out of it.  Now we have found 2-2004 Sundowner 727 trailers, one is a 3 horse 8010 Serria sig. series (or something like that) with upgraded soft touch interior, knotty pine wood and trim, drops all around and SS sides on the lower half.  The other is a 4 horse that just shows 8010 Serria with a finished mid tack, 8-k axles, 17.5 tires, hay rack, standard interior.  No generator on either trailer.   Both of these are repos and was told by the banker that both have been checked out and have paper work to confirm this.

What is something I need to check myself before I try and buy one of them?

Is the 727 all alum. trailer?

And the million dollar question, what's it worth?  nada.com shows retail 24-k to 31-k, but thats sounded kind of cheap to me.

Thanks

Are the trailers 8' wide? If they are not, they will be worth less. Most 727's are steel frame aluminum skin, but you need to check each individual trailer to find out. Model numbers indicate 10' short wall on each. The 3 horse sounds about right. The 4 horse might be worth slightly more due to the upgrades on the axles and 17.5 tires & mid tack. But in the prevailing market that is not too cheap on either unit. Also the price varies on part of country where the trailers are located. With the interior upgrade on the 3H it should be good buy.

If you will do a search about SD trailers, you will find many postings about the problems with their steel frames and warranty issues.

Both trailers are 8' wide!  Both wit mangers.  North Texas s where we are.

I just thought the book price was a little cheap compaired to the ones I have seen on here.  I tried to find some close to what I am looking at and I am seeing 01's and 02's they are asking upper 30's and low 40's for.

I guess I need to get a mag. and go check the frame to find out it they are steel or alum.

Just look under the trailer and around the bottom of the rear end. If it is steel frame you can tell easily. 8' wide and with mangers make both more valuable. The bank is giving you about wholesale prices on the trailers for this part of the country.

They have not give me a for sure price, they want me to make them an offer.

Both of these trailers are from this part of the country, so if they are steel frames how bad is that going to hurt?  I seen the post that gard pointed out and seems like the rust problems are up north.

Is the 8 year warranty on Sundowner for the 1st owner or does it stay with the trailer?

On that new a trailer it shouldn't have hurt the steel frame if they have been in north Tx or Ok. Usually that is seen on much older trailers. I am not sure if the warranty goes with the trailer. You might check with an SD dealer. If they want an offer, bid them as low as you are comfortable with not to exceed 20K to 25K.  That is low, but you do not know for sure what you are getting. There can be lots of things wrong with an LQ trailer that don't show up easily and they can be expensive to repair.

I am going Monday to look at the paper work showing it was checked out.  They tell me it has already been winterized and serviced.  Guess if I am lucky he will let me call whoever serviced it and find out more that way.

If you call Sundowner with the VIN # they can tell you if trailer is steel or aluminum frame, etc. There are letters in the VIN that indicate which type, I was told by Sundowner. They could also give you the original price, etc. And I might be wrong and am too lazy to go out to my trailer to get book (even here in beautiful South Carolina it is windy and rainy and cold tonight..well, about 60 degrees :), but I am pretty sure the warranty travels with owners. Sounds like a deal or two. I would check them out for sure.Deb

Thanks Deb, I will call them on Monday. About the warranty deal, you said travels with the owner, meaning if I bought the trailer new and sold it to someone then the remaining warranty is out? According to nada.com the msrp on the 3 horse was around 70-k and 68-k on the 4 horse.

No, I think the warranty transfers to the next buyer. I might be wrong. Did not pay attention bc I plan on keeping my Sundowner. I love it. And the customer service is great-I called them all the time because I had never owned a living quarter trailer and I bought mine off the Internet, sight unseen. (Which, by the way, was completely satisfactory. The trailer was even better than I expected it to be.) I just had questions about the LQ operations and the dealer was from up North and did not always take the time that the polite cowboys from Oklahoma did in answering my (dumb) questions. :)

About that issue with the rust on the frame. I have an '04 8010 and got concerned when I saw that thread. Looked underneath and thought I saw rust. Called Sundowner, took the trailer to have it fixed. It turned out it wasn't rust but the undercoating had cracked so it might have been a pre-curser to rust. They fixed it with no hassle. Have been very happy with my trailer and all interactions I've had with Sundowner. Good luck with your purchase. It sounds like you found a great deal!

Thanks, it sounds like the one's I have found are like yours. They are both 2004 8010's! I am going to Monday and look them over for myself so I can get a better idea of what I am buying. Maybe since they are from right here in North Texas rust will not be an issue. Yes, I will be crawling all under it just to be sure! I have already pulled the mats up and the floor on both of them looks great.

We got the trailer bought today!

I bought the 2004 SUNDOWNER 727 8010 Sig. Series 3 horse with drops all the way around, polished SS nose, polished SS sides on bottom, painted top rails and corner post, knotty pine interior sofft touch wall, 15" flip down tv, leather sofa, mangers with large extra water tank.  After looking over everything we found out that the LQ part of the trailer looks as if it has NEVER BEEN USED!  Still tags on the cabinets, micro and toilet.  Had to give more than what I wanted too, but we are going out of town next weekend and still can't use our other trailer.

Will try and post pictures on Saturday!  Thanks for your input.
