Location: AL | I am looking to purchase one of these for next years sweet itch season and was wondering if any of you had ever tried the Boett blanket from overseas? It is quite expensive but seems to be quite effective. So tired of all the ointments, sprays, supplements, etc... I must say it has been a better year this year than less but sure wish I didn't have to deal with it, and hate to see my horse so miserable. |

Location: North of Detroit, MI | http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=155469 SO far as sweet itch goes... there's some interesting info about it and what can cause it and how to treat it, on that forum in the thread about Onchocerca - Neck Thread Worms (NTW). Basically, you give the horse a double DOSE of Equimax dewormer, wait 2 weeks and do it again. If the horse is still itchy,do it again in 2 weeks. Double dose of ivermectin can be used for the 2nd or 3rd treatments. I have treated my horses and I have seen the lumps and bumps in the chest and midline after I have given the double dose of Equimax. I can't wait to get rid of these nasty, nasty little parasites that crawl around under the skin while they migrate to the spine. I thought one of my horses had a scar across his chest. UGH. I'm not going to go into a discussion about dewormers or overdosing or anything else. Any questions, please go to Chronicle of the Horse (COTH) and read the pages and pages of info.

Location: AL | Thanks for the info on the neckworm-yuck! I would have to check with the vet on that double dosing tho. I was just hoping that someone out there could tell me if they have had any success with the boett blanket or any type of sweet itch blanket. The only success stories that I have read are testimonials on the website and most everyone is from overseas. |

Location: Illinois | I keep some in a spray bottle (diluted some with water to start, depends on horse skin type). It will kill that nasty toenail fungus on people too, just dunk your toes into it! (soak a little) Makes sense, it kills germs in your mouth, so why not on your body! |

Location: Corpus Christi, Texas | I wish I seen this a couple of years ago.. I sold a great Rocky gelding because he just didn't tolerate the Texas climate. He went from round and solid to a caricature of himself and I tried everything I could think of or glean from vets... My vet literally said "he's got red river disease; he's on the wrong side of it".. |
