I have a new trailer with more living quarters to make non-rding hubby more comfortable.  The trailer came with a flat screen tv and an antenna...What do I need to get satellite added?  I was told that if I bought a dish for traveling then all I needed to do was take my receiver with us when we travel.  Appreciate any help on the subject.

That's true, do you have Dish or Direct? Does the trailer have an input for say cable tv?

A freind of mine takes his dish with him camping. He just sets it on the ground and points until he gets his signal, unless you want to buy a signal finder. But he ran the cable through his window. I want to put a permante plug on my trailer and start taking my dish. I also have a non riding other. I thought about also having one added where the antenna is on top but if your under trees then your signal would be blocked. Atleast with the dish on a tripod you can move it to a clear area...

I have DirecTv and for an extra $4.99/month I got a receiver for my trailer. I recommend the satellite dome. Just press a button and it finds the signal and in a few minutes you have TV. No need to spend 20 minutes trying to get the dish set just right.

So how does the dome unit work when your at a camp site that has trees around you? I would rather have something like that but if it can't have a clear shot for a signal then I can't see paying the price for one.

The domes are a problem, especially at horse camps. I have installed two dome units and they work real nice if you have a clear shot. Most people that are showing are in a parking lot so the domes are usually not an issue there.

I have the dome on my LQ trailer. But, since we are avid trailriders also, we usually have a external satellite hookup so we can set a dish and run the wire to the side of the trailer. It is relatively inexpensive install at Camping World. You just flip a switch behind the the receiver that lets the signal come in from the external plug and bypass the dome. If you don't want to go to the install route, then can just unplug the dome from the receiver, run a short wire, and put a flat adapter thru a door or window to hook up to the external dish. The flat adapter is like $10 at CW. Also, CW now sell the Satellite VUE Cube that is like a dome that just sits out in the open and plugs up to your receiver via a long cable. This is what we plan to use on our weekender if we ever need to stay in it. Finding the satellite is the hardest part of the external dish amd the cube is also a push button deal like the dome. FYI, the easiest way to find the satellite location is to get a Walmart roadmap atlas that has all the store locations listed in the front. Then plug in the zip code for the closet one to where you are camping. It has worked everytime we used the external dish so far.

You can order a refurbished kingdome unit at kingdome2 online for about half the cost of a new one.  Most lq shops or rv shops can install it for you.
