Location: Georgia | I have a new trailer. I also have a horse that loves to rake his teeth on anything metal. (Metal barn, old truck, car trunk, gutter down spouts) I would like suggestions as to what I could put on the trailer surface to make it UNappealing to this fellow when he is tied to the trailer. Someone has suggested vinegar, someone else said hotsauce. Any other suggestions? He rakes metal even when he is not tied so I am not sure I could ever teach him NOT to do it. My last truck looked like heck where he "chewed" it when he was let out in the front yard. Thanks. |

| It's not just your horse that does that.Most of them are murder on the sides of horse trailers.I've put a grazing muzzle on one of mine before. |

Location: KY | One of my darlins mashed the front fender of my truck, I suppose with his big a--. Another likes to pull the rock guard off trailer fenders, not to mention my lovely dogs who like to eat electrical wiring from underneath trailers. For me, I just shrug....
I suppose you could try coating the trailer with some kind of animal repellent....I do like the idea of the grazing muzzle.... |

| Just to be safe,I always take my horses bridle off,even if I'm at a show.Just easier to put it back on,and,keeps them from banging the bit and shanks on the trailer.Of course,they'll rub the metal part of their halter and lead rope on it,too.Anytime I've put a hay bag out,one of mine wound up tearing the hay bag to pieces.So I put a flake of hay in if I put a hay bag out! Man,those things can tear up a cannonball with a paper napkin! |

Location: South Central OK | do not put vinegar on your trailer! I have used with some success sandpaper. The area in question needs to be covered by taping the sheets up or putting up the kind with self adhesive backing. A few grinds along the sandpaper and he'll soon quit. This also works wonders for dogs that scratch doors. |

Location: atwater,ohio | can of spray "chew stop" . just spray it where you need . I aquired a young horse that would chew and scrap his teeth out of boredom. even tho he was getting plenty of turn out he still would do it. so I tried a can of chew stop and sprayed his "favorites" once a day , that stuff even smells horrible ! he stopped imediatly but I used up the can just to make sure I curbed His habit and it,s been well over a year and he still has,nt reverted back to his bad habit ! |

Location: North of Detroit, MI | wanna borrow my shock collar? grrr... I sure hope I never have a horse do that. I'd have to shoot the horse.  Edited to add... I park my GN trailer in one of the pastures sometimes and the horses wander under the GN area and all around it. The goats like it for the shade. Thank goodness none of them molest it.. one 5 year old brat horse, one 9 year old, and one 21 year old (horses). Goats... indeterminate ages. I guess I better thank someone for their good behavior. :)

Location: South of Dallas | Glad to run across this post. Nice to know that I'm not the only one that deals with this annoying problem. I'm still ticked at my little devil for "mounting" my truck. Really did a number on my hood. The teeth raking bit on the trailer was really getting under my skin. Not to mention their butt scratching on the trailer, the new shed, the side of the house (mobile home).... I call them my furry, free-loading wrecking crews. |

| Our horses have pretty much ruined parts of our steel round pen.The bottom gate support has broken off from a couple of the horses backing up and pushing and rubbing on it.It finally gave way,it was rusting some but not THAT bad. As I said,"tear up a cannonball with a paper towel" animal. |

Location: Southern New Mexico | My 2yr old has started to lean on the gate when she is stalled or wants something on the other side of the fence. She will back up to the gate and put her butt against it and put all of her weight on it. She has managed to pull the screws out of a couple of latches and free herself. |

Location: washington | My horse bites on the side of the trailer while waiting to be saddled. He grabbed the rubber around the window a month ago and pulled it right off, the bugger. The trailer is virtually new (was) and he pulled that dang rubber molding off. I put it back in but it didn't go back in the way it was before. I had to glue it a little to keep it in place :( |

Location: Goreville, Illinois | I am just curious, does anyone have a buggy whip or electric fence? if I paid as much as you guys do on here for a trailer, u bet id be beating some horse @$$. I only have a nice little 2H BP and my daughters pony took a big bite out of it one day at a show. I could have killed her. cant imagine getting some teeth scrapes on a 40K rig.

Location: Hutto, TX | The county took a sliver of our front pasture and had to rebuild the fence for us. I told the guy that came out to NOT put his brand new bright red truck in the horse pasture as they like to scratch paint, but he did and then got mad about it when they left a long gash on the bumper. Go figure. Didn't do a very good job on the fence either. . . |
