Here's a 14' Calico 2H slant that arrived recently. It has wide stalls and a swing-wall dressing room. (When we get good light, we're going to take pictures of the subject trailer. In the meantime, we're using pictures of similarly-equipped Calico 14-footers that have passed through the dealership recently.)
There are several noteworthy things about this trailer. The 14' length is easy to handle, but it allows wider & roomier stalls. You can get a Calico 2H slant in a trailer as short as 12 feet, but the rear stall in that one is about a foot narrower than the front. In those shorter trailers, that rear stall is going to be a bit cramped for anything other than a pony or very small horse. That's why Traveled Lane's basic 2H slant is based on a 13-footer so that rear stall will be about the same size as the front. When we order this version with the drop feed windows, they need to make the escape door wider, so we specify an additional foot of length (to 14 feet) and give each stall an extra 6" of width. We have seen a 13' version that looks like this one, but you give up stall space in that one. We favor comfort for the horses over saving a few dollars, so when we order for inventory, it's this 14-footer, With drop down feed windows on the head wall and air gaps on the butt wall & rear gate, this one offers an appealing combination of weather protection, ventilation and attractive price.
With the swing wall dressing room, you can remove the saddle racks, swing aside the stall divider and dressing room wall and have an open trailer. Great for hauling hay, a small tractor, ATVs or a variety of other non-horse cargoes.
Calico equips the trailers to our specifications and we typically specify a variety of optional features for safety and convenience. We ordered this one with 7' height, but they'll build it in different heights, widths or lengths. This trailer has extra wide stalls, and on some trailers, we'll specify even wider. With Calico, just about any floor plan may be ordered with windows, with livestock air gaps or a combination of the two as shown here. We do custom Calicos all the time, so please call us if you'd like a variation of something we're showing (or even something totally different). Another Traveled Lane-specified feature we like to point out is brakes on both axles. Brakes on one axle are standard, but we see the 2nd-axle brakes as an inexpensive investment in greater safety.
Calico's been building high quality, affordable trailers since 1983 and we've been selling them since 2008. Part of the appeal of a Calico is its functionality and part of the appeal is appearance. The Calico rounded nose looks good, but it also splits the air as you go down the road. Another aspect combining looks & function is the finish. Calico's multi-step prep, prime & paint process produces a glossy finish. For quite some time, they've been caulking seams to minimize the chance of rust formation in areas where it's hard to get paint to penetrate. In 2016, they took things a step further and went to a urethane paint with hardener. In our experience, their acrylic enamel held up well, but Calico's tests showed that the urethane with hardener should be even more durable and resistant to abrasion and chipping.
