About what would you expect to pay to have the bearings repacked for a 2H bumper pull? My guess would be the ones in my trailer have either never been done or probably not for a very long time. I have no idea what something like this should cost, so just looking for a ball park to make sure I don't get scalped. When I went to have my truck inspected, the Ford dealership said it needed new front lower ball joints and quoted $700. I called my husband to discuss it, before authorizing the work (he kept insisting it didn't need it, but I figure it probably did, especially to pull and he was getting ready to drive it 1000 miles round trip with a car on a trailer) and got the idea to have HIM call another local auto shop that he and my father have frequented for years. They did the ball joints, front end aliginment, and a State Inspection for $250. I learned that day that there are folks out there ready to take you at every corner. Made me HAPPY to write the check for $250, though.

Assuming that you don't have to change any parts other than the grease seals, locks or cotter pins, it would take aprox 20 - 30 minutes per wheel for disassembly, cleaning, brake inspection, replacing the seal and repacking the bearings by hand. A pressure packer would lower that time by several minutes. Multiply that by four and you have 80- 120 minutes. Multiply that by the hourly rate and add in the cost of the seals and "shop supplies".

If you want to really save, do them yourself. A friend and I did mine last week and it was reasonably easy to do. Look for the previous post on wheel bearing grease for the link to Hosspuller's article on doing the repacking. I'll be able to do it myself next time. The brakes, well that's another thing. There is a video online to do those under the same post.
