For all those that have installed a bathroom from scratch...
I have searched low and high on how to install a shower drain in a RV. All I can find is repair procedures. I am in the process of installing a shower/toilet combo in my LQ trailer. I purchased the pan from jazzsales.com, but have no idea what kind of drain to put in to attach it to the abs drain pipe, much less where to buy one...
Any help, advice, where to buy, etc would be fantastic and if you have pictures of your install, those would be greatly appreciated.
Maybe I'm thinking too hard? I seem to over complicate things...

I've never installed a shower pan/toilet combination. I have installed a toilet which sits over the black tank, and has a slip joint grommet used in the top hole of the tank. This holds and seals a tail pipe from the toilet.
Both showers in our LQs, have a pan that is elevated over the floor. The drains are attached to a trap and then drain lines are run laterally where they run to the gray tanks.
I don't know how a combination tray/toilet has their drains segregated to their individual tanks. If there are two separate drains, it would just be a matter of routing each one to its intended tank.

Thanks Gard. I purchased the pan that gets plumbed to tanks under the trailer, not the one with its own internal sewer tank. The toilet, I think I have under control. It will go straight down to the black tank via a 3" pipe as with any other, just elevated off the floor. I have to build a supporting platform where the toilet sits.
The shower drain is what I am having problems coming up with. It would be like any other shower pan, I assume. Mine has a 1 3/4" hole for the drain, I just don't know "what goes in that hole." And where I would find whatever that piece is-- So I can connect it to the pipe going to the gray tank.
I hope I'm making sense.
I purchased one of these last night hoping this is what I need or hoping I can make it work...

I purchased the stool shower combo pan with the black tank under the stool portion,,, I usually overthink things also. But,, I would really like to have ideas from someone else that has installed one of these,,, as far as framing , there is styropome (sp) between the black tank and the white pan,,, styrphome under the shower pan portion, which I am sure you leave,,, we know how to plumb it,, just undercertain about what the proper framing proceedure is.. where we purchased had no instructions or suggestions,, any help, photos, websites would be greatly appreciated...

I supported mine with 2x4's. Just did it yesterday actually. Basically, I built the frame then went through and added boards to fill in any weak spots.
It defintely would help to know where all of your plumbing is going before building the frame.

when you set the drain of the black tank down into the floor,, does the shower pan become flush? Did you build the frame under the perimeter edge of the pan,, did yours have the styraphome(sp) between the black waste tank the stool area,,, than there was a piece glued under the shower pan,, which I assumed stays,, (sorry to be so dense) We have our water lines ran, did you use a thedford toilet?

I bought the pan that does not have the built in black tank. Basically my toilet (yes, a thetford) will run through a pipe to my black tank under the trailer, but both sides (potty and the shower) have styrofoam under them, which does not get removed.
No, I did not brace under the perimeter. It was entirely too weak. I basically built a sub-floor out of 2x4's and MDF under the whole set up that it just sits on. It is the width of the bottom of the shower portion. I will scab in some additional pieces for the trim board that will go in the doorway.

Hey folks. I too would be very interested in seeing someone else's approach on this. I built a frame out of 2x10s on end so it stood off the floor a bit. I opted for the floor pan with out the black tank included as I wanted to pipe it through the floor to a larger tank for longer use between dumps. anyway. I scabbed in a piece to support the toilet as it is raised 3-4 inches from the shower floor. I will try and post some pictures as well I havent go the plumbing done yet as I have about 15 different sections of this project going at the same time.

That would be great,,, I feel real insecure with putting frame work under this shower pan and having it rub or whatever,, any pics from anyone with work in process or completed would be great!! Do you use any packing, stryrofoam to protect from the frame boards?

my combo, having the black tank under the stool area, will be flush with floor once drain hole is cut that goes from that black tank on down to a connecting drainpipe. But the shower side will be abit higher,, so need to frame under the shower area to support and level up,,, frame around the perimeter of the pans, but not out to the outer edge? I maybe seeing the light... Did you guys have difficulty finding black or gray tanks thin enough to safely attach under your trailers?

I looked all over for specific size tanks and I think I drew and redrew the configuration in my trailer about 15 times to get the most space possible. This place ( http://plastic-mart.com ) seems to have the best selection that I have found of stock water and holding tanks. if you can't find the size you want, they will custom build you one but it will come at a premium.

I already purchased a tank for the shower, sink water,,, but I had to go thru several companies to get one thin enough, just curious of what others have done for a tank, or how deep of a tank you were able to use,,, my trailer as big as it is, did not have blocks under the axles for extra height,, it is just average so not alot of ground clearance

The site you referred me to, was a really nice site, lots of options,,, I purchased my tanks from RVNations.com,,, plus several other items ,, they seemed to be the most reasonable...

My trailer is just average height as well. My tanks (both black and gray) are only 6" at the tallest point, but they are 30" wide and 56" long. Which causes me to have to mount them 3.5" below my trailer floor, but thats ok. I will still have about 10 inches of clearance to the ground at the lowest part. Here is some pictures I took of my "platform." I decided against the MDF, it just wasn't necessary. But you are correct, trying to brace it around the edges would just break the shower basin. My platform is 15 inches wide and 35 inches long.

you must have had to take some undercarriage braces out or cut off the angle of the support,, what did you do,, have you ran straps across your tanks since they are so wide,,, I had considered having a skid plate put under my tank with a tapered front to deflect any unwanted obstacles,,, I think my trailer is lower than yours even... I think I missed your pix of the shower frame,,,

your take is much diff than mine,,, but I get the jest of the frame,, I think.... will you put anything between frame and tank to keep frame from rubbing during travel....
