I have learned the hard way about trailer brake tension so I am now careful to adjust accordingly. I like Chadsalts suggestion of the automatic adjuster...

I totally agree with you on that one! If someone tailgates me I slow down and let the idiot pass. On more than one occasion I have later passed by that same idiot who slid into ditch. My thought was "serves you right"!

What an experience! Yes, I guess leaving space ahead of you only works if other drivers respect it. I hope I never need to make the choice (if there was even time to do so), but what you say about the straight ahead collision sounds like the best option. The T-bone type of collision definitely has a high fatality rate for humans. The brain just wasn't meant o bounce from side to side in the skull. Once the swelling starts to occur brain damage and often death is the result. Airbags are great for adults, but not so great for kids, so I'm not sure about that.
Well, if I am ever in one of those situations I will try and remember to brake hard and try to keep the rig straight.

Gee, did the person who posted the photo of the trailer that was rear ended by the semi and didn't a scratch read this? It's amazing that no one was hurt. Drunk drivers should have their licenses permanently revoked in my opinion.
