I have a Kiefer Built Genesis X-440 and 2 A &E Two Step Awnings I would like to intall on it.  I have never installed an awning, but consider myself mechanically competent.  Have any of you every installed your own, or should I leave it to a professional?

Jeff, What year is the trailer? If it is a mid '04 or newer with the patented roof, there is not a solid corner radius like there is on other trailers. For that reason, awning & hayrack installations on those models take some special procedures & bracketing. There are several variables such as trailer height, sidewall treatment (extruded or not) that will need to be considered. The 2 step awning isn't as installation flexible as the 8500 series is. It can be done, but I'd suggest working with someone who has installed 2 step awnings and is familiar with the Kiefer Built roof before so you don't end up with "extra" holes in your trailer. We'd be happy to help if you were a bit closer! Might contact your local Kiefer dealer.

It is an '03 model.  I talked to the local Keifer dealer, he sent me to an RV dealer not too far away.  I had them look at it last fall to make sure it would work.

I guess I'm just being impatient, they can do it, but not for a couple of weeks.

On an '03, it has a traditional roof. So most of the difficulties are not present. Just size it up and measure three times before you drill! If you could look at a two-step on a trailer it would be very helpful guide.

After you install the awning....don't forget to also install an awning lock.
