I've read several posts about Goodyears and others (good and bad).  I have a bumper pull that is in need of new tires.  Anyone care to add info on: taskmaster tires.  I believe they are made in the US and may be a reasonable alternative to spending a fortune on tires.

Thank you!

ok.  What are some other descent tires?  I have read many bad reviews about the Goodyear Marathon tires from other tire websites.  I have scene mixed on Duro, Towmaster.  Mostly bad about Carlisle.

HTW viewers, please add some info about your gear.

What trailer are you buying tires for? But like RETENTO said about TaskMasters...CHINESE JUNK...

Could you cite the particular sites, so I could peruse their comments?

I have a 3 horse Bison BP. Maxed out weight is about 10k.  I have Towmaster 225/75/15 8 ply on it and have had no problems since I bought it in 2001.  They are starting to get dry and I am not very comfortable with them anymore.  Are Towmaster considered junk as well?  How about Remington?

The web tends to get excited about the Chinese tires, maybe theyve used them and had problems, maybe they are just repeating what theyve read. Personally I dont worry about what brand the tires are. Maybe Im just lucky, but Ive had VERY few problems over the years. I currently have the dreaded Carlisle tires on my horse trailer, ran the fool out of them with no problems, and Im not the only one. I have some other off brand tires on my equipment trailer.......no problem there either. Matter of fact, I dont think I know anybody who has "good" tires on their horse trailers, and oddly enough we all get where we are going.

Sounds like youve had good service out of the tires you have now, why not go with them again?

If you've had good luck with the "Towmasters" then go back with them. They are also made in China. I know several weeks ago I could have bought a set of Chinese made 235/85R16 ST, load range G "14ply" tires for $109.00 each. That may have been an option if I had just sold the trailer and never had to pull it again.

I've always used Goodyear Marathon tires and have never ever had any kind of problem with them. My guess is, if your pulling a bumper pull that you are not a "heavy user" and many tires would probably dryrot before you ware the tread out. Buy the best tire that you can afford ~ in todays economy we make sure our dollars are spent on USA products as much as possilbe. Good luck in your search.

If you are running 15" and 16" rims and "C,D, and E" range tires, there are many brands you can consider. I do not use trailer rated tires, instead I purchase "E" range LT truck tires and have never had any issues. Currently I'm running a set of Bridgestones on one trailer, and Goodrich on my other trailer and truck.

I had a BP stock trailer that was equipped with 15" Goodyear "C" range bias ply trailer tires. Twelve years later I sold the trailer with three of the original tires installed. They had no dry rot and a majority of the tire thread left. They were in excellent condition.

If you decide LT tires will work for you, check the tire stores for "take offs". These are brand new tires, swapped out by new truck owners, who want something different than the OEM can supply. I bought my new Bridgestones for about 2/3 of the list price, $115 each.

I thought this was pretty cool. Just thought I would pass it along. Readbelow.UnbelievableRadical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show. [cid:9B50738811114392AE10673321844568@ownerPC]These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market verysoon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work onthese tires. This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existingtechnology:a. no more air valvesB. no more air compressors at gas stationsc. no more repair kits SCAN DOWN & SEE.These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.???????

sorry the pictures didn't come through. These are solid rubber tires on a flexible wheel. No air to needed for inflation, no dry rot, but not very pretty. Will try to get this to work later.

Tire Rack.com has several bad reviews on the Marathons.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Marathon+Radial

Yes... the several bad reviews came from owners of travel trailers...and the one admitted to speeds of 85 while passing and then claimed they would reduce their speed to travel at 65...NOT taking into consideration heat dissipation is NOT a linear function......another review admitted to underinflation of their trailer tires, which we know causes major heat problems...

But actual count shows more positive reviews than negative...

If you read many threads on this forum...you will notice that knowledgeable trailer people, in general, admit to traveling FASTER than tires are rated for...I can only imagine what speeds the RV trailer types are really doing...BUT here in VT, I see them barreling down I-89 every weekend...
