In the key below, a = automatic transmission and towing pkg, d = Requires 3.73:1 axle ratio, and m = Requires 17-inch wheel option.
So - standard wheels on the Expedition are 16", and I'm assuming the first rating of 7900 is applicable to those. How does having larger wheels lower the towing capacity by 500 lbs?

The 16" wheel is running "LT" tires (LT265/75R16lrD) and the 17" wheel is running "P" series tires (P275/70R17)...17" Passenger tires verses a smaller 16" light truck tire which has a higher load capacity. That's just my S.W.A.G.

Basically what retento said.......although I doubt it comes standard with LT tires even on the 16". It usually has to do with the construction of the tires, the larger rim size having small sidewalls and such.
