What happens to wrecked trailers when the insurance company is done with them? Is there such thing as a trailer junk yard? Or an internet site that sells "used" parts? Or do they just land in regular salvage yards? I've just never seen any ~?

Have a buddy that has owned a salvage yard for years,and he tells me that when he goes to the vehicle sales/auctions he sees them there a lot for sale.

I would think there would be a great market for salvaged parts that were not damaged in a wreck - hay racks, saddle racks, dividers, LQ appliances, etc. I know I tried to find a stud wall divider for my trailer and was told Logan didn't make that model anymore and I would have to have one custom made. I have no idea where to start looking for salvaged horse trailer parts.

I'd like a stud wall type divider for my 3H Elite as well. I wanted to use a heavy duty rubber mat, but hubby says it would be too heavy on the divider and we should have some sort of aluminum one made.

In my last trailer I hung a rubber mat from the divider for a semi-full divider and it worked just fine. Am thinking of doing the same thing in this one, but I'd like to have the full floor-to-ceiling divider to be able to use the first stall for storage safely.

Too bad we don't live closer as I have a stud divider for sale!

One of our club members buys them and rebuilds them. He's got a 4H GN Sundowner as well as a gorgeous 4H GN LQ Keifer built. He's able to do all the work himself and often resells them. I have no idea where he gets them, but you gotta be real handy..

I would be concerned about structural soundness of the frame if it has been in a wreck. As for the other parts, such as drop down windows, partitions, doors, racks, etc I would think there would be a market for those...hmmmm something someone should consider starting!!!

Ditto. Depending on the wreck it was involved in, I bet you could get a lot of good stuff from a wrecked trailer if you are into DIY repairs and modifications.

Most wrecked-(totaled by insurance company) trailers I've seen have very little salvage parts. Windows- maybe, dividers are usually bent, axles-sometimes, tires-maybe, doors- sometimes are slavageable. LQ componets-sometimes. By the time to put labor into cutting these off or removing, most of the time you're better off scraping and replacing parts from manufacturer. I would think if this business model worked, someone would be doing it on a large scale like car and tractor parts??? Most aluminum trailers are lasting 20-30 years, so far.

Did some searching. Looked hard and didn't find too many. I would be interested in where the one person's friend that does the fix ups finds them. I have a full shop and would be interested in rebuiling one for my own use.

Insurance companies sell them at auctions you have to be a motor vehicle dealer or salvage dealer to buy them. People like me buy them , either fix them my self or send them out to have fixed then sell them.
