Definitely stay in Townsend, the quiet side of the Smokies. Pigeon Forge is a zoo. You can easily get to PF from Townsend via Wears Valley, and it is a much more pleasant place to stay. Several nice campgrounds.

We are planninga trip to Orchard Cove this year.  Are the trails well marked, do they have maps available?

Thanks,

Yes, the trails are well marked, but with 250 miles of them, its hard to know where to go.  PM me and i can give you more info.
