I am looking at Generators. I need something light weight, that I can lift myself if needed. I have a small window ac unit in my trailer 5,000 BTU's and a small microwave. My lights and water pump will run off of DC, water heater is propane... What size generator can I get away with? I don't need to run the AC and microwave at the same time. It would be nice to be able to use a hair dryer. I also want a quiet model..so far it sounds like Honda is the best in that area. Thanks!

Slickrnsnot.. I spent a good part of the weekend researching small generators and narrowed it down to Honda and/or Yamaha. I have a Yahmaha this size picked out on eBay.. Thanks for your opinion. I can't say I have read anything bad about them yet. Where did you purchase yours? I am looking for the best deal I can get. Thanks again.

I bought a Yamaha EF2400 i
It's an inverter technology type of product. An inverter type generator produces a clean sine wave type of electricity. A Clean sine wave is better for high tech electronics. ie TV,s Cell Phones Microwaves etc. A non -invertor type is sufficent for lessor tech type of products. Saw motors, light bulbs etc
The Yamaha EF2400 puts out 2400 peak watts and 2000 continous watts. It weighs 70 lbs. It runs at 54 decible for noise. I run a 18,500btu A/c just fine. I also run a Microwave. I can't run both at the same time. I'd need more like a 3000 watt unit for that. A 3000 watt Honda Invertor generator weighs 130 lbs.

Painted Horse.. the Yamaha you mentioned is what I have picked out.. I was wondering if it could handle a 5000 BTU AC and a microwave..I don't mind turning one off to use the other. I would really like to add a small fridge though..and am in the process of learning how to add up the right numbers to determine what I can use. Thanks!
