Wow! We just returned from 10 glorious days at Cavalry School on the Realbird's Native American lands adjacent to the Little Big Horn Battlefield. Our camp was exactly where the Native American encampment stood that Reno attacked. We had classes in weapons (fired live rounds on firing range - revolvers and carbines, blanks on horseback), sabres, horsemanship, and learned basic cavalry manuevers on horseback. We also did staff rides over the battlefield to places like Weir Point, and the mass grave of the cavalry horses. Riding over the ground Custer, Reno and Benteen travelled was definitely a highlight of the week. At week's end we were joined by other reenactors to celebrate "LIttle Big Horn Days." The surrounding townfolk and tourists enjoyed watching us portray Fetterman's massacre, Reno's charge, and Custer's Last Stand. The Crow Nation (we were on the Crow reservation) provided the Native Americans for the reenactments. Those young men can ride!! To find out more details, visit uscavalryschool.org.

Wow! With all of that knowledge of warfare on horseback, sabre rattling, shooting, etc. you will now be prepared for riding on federal property!!!!! LOL

We did not take our own horses. I admired the horses we were provided - they did well under gun fire, indians whooping and circling at a full gallop, as well as excellent behavior in the parade in Crow Agency, Montana. I have attempted to attach pictures...I hope this works!
US Cavalry School
Did you take your own horse or did they provide horses? Please post any pictures you have.
