Thought everyone should be aware of a dealer for Featherlite that is less than honorable. I found an ad on Horse Trailer World, sent an e mail inquiring about the trailer, ask about a trade, sent photos, called and talked to the salesman, told him how I would trade, a difference of $10,000, sent him an e mail to confirm my offer, told him I would bring him a check and pick the trailer in a couple of days. He responded by e mail that we had a deal and ask how the title was to be made out, etc. He then let me drive 300 miles and then called and told me we had a problem he had thought I was going to take $10,000 for my trailer. A trailer equal to mine would be listed on Horse Trailer World for somewhere around $40,000. Premier Truck and Trailer sales of Aledo, Tx is a dealer you want to be very careful in dealing with, they did not honor the deal they made with me and I see no reason to think it will not happen to others. Be very careful in dealing with this company.

I don't see how it could be. He asked how I wanted to trade and I said I would trade for $10,000. This person and this company are in the business of selling trailers. No one that knows anything about trailers would think that an 01 Featherlite, 3 horse trailer, in excellent condition, (he saw the pictures and agreed) would be wiling to trade and take $10,000 for their trailer. Not sure what, but something else was going on with them and they did not live up to what they agreed to and they will do it to someone else. Too many good dealers out there to have to deal with someone as bogus as these folks.

If the language was as above, and you "would trade for $10,000" then I would have assumed you were willing to trade in your trailer for $10k, not exchange trailers and pay an extra $10k. If this was the language you used, I have to side with the dealer. When doing things long distance, you have to be crystal clear in your meaning and make sure there is agreement - think contract attorney. I would have made the point of saying the exact same thing again, but in slightly different language to eliminate any confusion. Something like, "OK, I'll be giving you my trailer and a check for $10k and you'll be giving me the trailer you have on the lot that we agreed on." Sometimes a person thinks they're being clear, but the other party hears it a different way. Sorry to hear your deal went sour.

Looks like an honest mistake to me. Everyone makes them - even you, right?
I don't think accusing a dealer of shady dealings on a public forum is the proper way to handle this situation. Sounds to me like you didn't get anything in writing before driving 300 miles. Shame on you.
I don't think it's fair for you to blame the dealer because you didn't do your homework. Suck it up and be accountable for your actions, or lack there of.

They were in the wrong just as much as anybody else.Their main man should have looked at that deal and said,"Wait a minute, something doesn't look right here, are you sure he understood the deal?" Then called him back to clarify it,or offered to fax him something on it.
I feel bad for him,but I'm not going to make him feel worse than he already does about it.Especially after getting on this forum, known for making folks feel like idiots.

If you're EVER made to feel like an idiot on this board I would like to know about it. There's a "REPORT TO MODERATOR" at the bottom of each post. Feel free to use it.
Like many good forums, a few bullies can scare people from posting . . and a few "white hats" can quickly round them up.
There are lot's of ways to disagree, respectfully.
By the way . . . we discourage newcomers to post for the first time here for no other reason than to tell everybody one side of a story . . . while naming their adversary.
It's like shooting someone in the back. This post is a good example. I had to read the op several times before I realized, like others, it was a communication problem - between two people who likely had good intentions - one anxious to buy and one anxious to sell (and makes a living with repeat business and references)

You guys are probably correct. I should not have assumed that a trailer dealer would know that my trailer was worth approx. $40,000. I should have known that he would expect my to let him have it for $10,000. I mean, dang these things sell every day for less than 10. When he looked at the pictures of my trailer, asked how I would trade and I told him I would trade for $10,000, and he sent me an e mail (in writing) that we had a deal. We exchanged e mails and phone calls over several days, I didn't go into every detail I just highlighted a problem that I thought might help someone else down the road.(But) Maybe you all should give these folks a try and get you a new trailer, they got great prices, they are knowledgeable and really customer oriented, just what you would expect from a first rate professional dealer. If you get screwed it will be your fault though not theirs. Wonder why it occured to the saleman mid day on the day I was supposed to pick up the trailer that I misunderstood what the deal was?

And he was a business man and should have insisted on written agreement . . he works deals every day.
Do not feel bad. I gave a young couple $20,000 for a barn so they could order the materials early . . . the wife showed up with a little girl when we signed contracts, so I threw in a horse and a saddle to boot.
It's been two years and I still don't have a barn but there's a warrant out for her arrest.

One of the programs that we will be adressing in the near future is a Dealer Certification Program. Once this is completed "certfifed" dealers will be able to proudly display this seal.
We will promote the certified dealer program, and we hope that this will help to educate dealers in better business practices, and create a better buying experience for the customer.
