Do trailer companies prefer to deal in person or on the phone rather than answering e-mails?  I have sent e-mails to about five different trailer dealers and have received a response from only one.  I know what I want and now I'm just shopping for the best price.  The dealerships I have contacted are too far away for me to pop in for a visit and my job and kids do not afford me the time to be on the phone.  Is it that they figure if you're e-mailing then it's just a matter of curiosity and you're not really interested in buying?

I've had good luck with email but I started out by calling and had them send me information by email.

KIM, that is certainly not the case with my company!  We do a large portion of our business via the internet and with emails.  If we were fortunate enough to be on your shopping list, I sure hope my folks answered you!  If not, and I can be of assistance, please email me @ info@dhmco.com.  THX  DON SMITH, OWNER, DIXIE HORSE & MULE CO

KIM / SHANE / ALL, I did not mean my post to be a solicitation for business, but rather to advise that there are certainly some of us dealers out here that do respond and try very hard to earn one's business!  I know Shane @ Diamond D does, and hopefully some others too.  I'd not want the responsive ones painted with the same brush as the others!  THANKS<  DON SMITH, OWNER, DIXIE HORSE & MULE CO.

I am in California and bought my trailer in MO last November.  Most of my dealings were e-mail.  Great service.

We do almost half of our horse trailer business via e-mail.  I have had people tell me that of all the dealers they e-mailed to, we were the only one that responded.  I cannot imagine why a dealer would not treat e-mail with the same promptness as they would a phone call.   Do take into consideration that there may be circumstances occasionally when there is no one to check e-mail.  For instance, for one week in June both Beth and I will be out of the office while we run the Indiana 4-H Horsemanship Camp.  Our e-mails will go unanswered until we return.  Other dealers may have similar occasions when they are involved in trade shows, etc., but should be expected to respond in a reasonable amount of time.

Most of our manufacturers do not respond to e-mail, but simply forward that mail to their dealers.  That may involve a few days delay.   Regardless, there is no excuse for ignoring a customer, no matter how the contact is made.

Thank you so much for your posts.  None of the dealers that answered were the dealers in question.  Keep up the good work guys!  I guess I will just wait them out and hope to get an answer soon.

I have had several dealers who never responded at all to my emails for trying to get replacement parts, etc.  Since we got the Exiss, I have emailed Exiss for some little parts and was contacted and parts sent with courtesy.....I just wanted some little things, but am in the market for an aluminum stock trailer and on occasion upgrade items. so I do note and appreciate being treated as a potential customer...

Kim,I also inquired about a trailer over the internet and got an imediate responce and ended up purchasing from them. They did everything we agreed to in the deal and the service department also gave me their cell phone numbers if I ever had a problem on the road so I could reach them. Many thanks to Don Smith at Dixie Horse& Mule Co.

Kim, We get a number of emails, and there have been several occasions where someone's spam filter or earthlink won't let us reply. Even worse, I've replied & they later tell me they didn't get any of them. Its very unfortunate for the person & the dealer. Not making excuses for them, but you might give at least 1 call to get started & then email.
