Looking at Used Dodge trucks. I have found an 03 and an 05.

I called my local Dodge Garage who will do all our servicing. I asked about remaining warranty. I was told the 03 with 47K on it has remaining warranty to cover the engine and the drivetrain up to 70K and 100K on the engine. I was shocked to find out the 05 with 34K would have no warranty, that it wouldn't transfer because dodge changed the way they do their warranty and in 05 it only transfered once. The 05 truck shows it has had two previous owners.

Any input?, Mr. Truck?

Dodge use to charge a $100 transfer fee. But they stopped that a couple of years ago when they changed their warranty to what GM and Ford where doing with 3 year 36k bumber to bumber with the 5 year 100k just on the diesel I thought in 2005. And I didn't think they had an owner limit. I'd call Dodge customer service 1-800-556-8172 Here is a warranty page, http://www.dodge.com/crossbrand/warranty/index.html put the year in and get the basic plan.

The 05 I was looing at was a business truck and therefor did not come with the 7-70.

Looks like it is the 03 for me.

There was a lot of valuble info on those web sites you directed me to. It pays to check into these things while buying used.

Yeah, when Dodge went to the 36/36, they dropped the 7/70 powertrain warranty, I think all in 2005.

The fuel injection pump is just the fuel pump right?  It's not just some little thing stuck off in the corner that has the same name right?  I'm just asking because my truck has 77,000 miles on it and my fuel pump cracked and was shooting deisel all over the engine. LOTS of smoke.   I was in front of a deisel shop so I stopped there instead of trying to drive to the dealer.  I called the dealer but they wanted me to find my warantee papers and show them where the pump was covered instead of looking it up themselves.  Maybe I can get some of that $$$ back.

Sometimes there are 3 pumps. The injector pump and lift pump are on the engine. Is it factory warranty? Why can't the shop look up the warranty? On factory warranty work they usually want the truck towed to the nearest dealership service center. The pump on the engine should be covered by the diesel engine warranty.

Sometimes there are 3 pumps.

It figures.  It was a pump mounted on the engine that the dealer told me they are now putting in the tank.  The truck is an 02.  When I called the dealer they said they couldn't look it up.  It wasn't in their computer which I thought was odd since the dealer I bought it from in Tx always had that info in their computers.  They always bent over backwards to help out.   They told me the same thing (I had to have the paperwork) when I had a wire short that was blowing the starter fuse.  $6 in parts $100 in labour.

They said they could have it towed over to the shop but if it wasn't warantee I would have to pay for the tow and the pump would be $480 (plus tax) for the pump+adaptor kit to put it in the tank.  The shop it was at said they could get the exact same pump that was on it and have it installed for $350.   Being after Christmas, and after a long expensive move.  We went with the $350.

The lift pump is the only problem I had out of my Dodge, good freind of mine that is diesel guy said it was a backwards recall, in other words Dodge knew it was a problem(that's why they changed it to in tank) but figured they would let it run it's course. Mine went out right in front of a large Dodge dealership in Lexington. I paid to have it towed back to the dealer I deal with.

From what I was told the 05 I was looking at was bought through the business link and only came with the 3/36 on the powertrain. The 100K on the engine is through cummings not Dodge correct?

So does it matter how it was purchased?

I called the number Mr. Truck gave me and they told me it would be covered. When I double checked with my Dodge Garage they said the info they had said the warranty does not transfer.

Who do you believe???!!!

You are talking about the original Dodge factory warranty? Call Dodge back and tell them what the garage said and what to do next. The factory trumps a dealer on what gets paid in their warranty. If you have an aftermarket extended warranty, then you have to read the contract.

Mystery Solved. Called Dodge again and got the straight scoop on the 05.

No 7-70 Powertrain was available with this truck. Don't know why but it does not cover this truck.

All other warranties are in place.

Well THREE friends of mine with 05 have/had FACTORY 7/70 powertrain and the ONE 06 doses not. Also this has been discussed MANY times by 06 owners whom assumed they had 7/70 on MANY of the Dodge forums.06 with the NEW G56 manual trans was 3/36. 05 had 7/70.Ask that question on www.dieseltruckresource.com
