I have to put a new 5.7 vortec engine in my truck. I have looked at new and rebuilt. There is quite a price difference. Has anyone used a rebult engine before and did it do OK.

You are best off to look at REMANUFACTURED, not rebuilt. Rebuilt just replaces parts, whereas emanufactured includes machining of the block, heads and so forth. Check out Jasper Engines. Very reputable, excellent nationwide warranty, and pretty competitive pricing.

Check your local GM dealer for a "crate engine". They can be bought in several different configirations, short block, long block and complete engine. These suppose to be new engines and you would have to return your old engine as a "core", if not you will have to pay a "core charge" and keep your old engine. Comes with a factory warranty and the dealer can install. The Jasper engine is a good choice, don't know about their warranty and you would have to install it yourself of have it installed by someone else. I wouldn't buy a Jasper engine and try to get a GM dealer to do the install, would be like buying a new Dodge and taking it to the Ford dealer to have it repaired.
